Oh yeah, and even with the metal gas tank, there's a skid plate underneath the tank. If metal is sooo superiorly strong, why does it need a skid plate?
IMO the plastic tanks were a step in the right direction. Some of these new plastics are fantastic for things like fuel tanks, etc. I remember the oil pan rotting from the outside in on my Aerostar, what a PITA that was. Honestly I'm all for these new plastics for a lot of automotive applications.
