2007 Highlander Hybrid, 304,000. Mobil 1 5-30. 1/16" down on dip stick at 5000 miles. 2008 Mercedes S550, 265,000. Mobil 1 5 - 50. 7/8 qt at 4000 miles.
I have 4 Honda Odysseys (see details in my signature below). No oil consumption at all during the OCI in any of them.I'll start out by saying that since my 1977 VW Rabbit, which was recalled for leaky valve stem seals, I've had no measurable oil consumption with any of my cars until my two current rides. My wife's 2011 Acura TSX wagon has consumed about 1 quart of oil per 3,000 miles for the the past 6 years or so. I received a notice from Acura about 7 years ago extending my powertrain warranty and warning of increased oil consumption. The notice recommended using to Top Tier gas to combat the problem and I also put Techron in the tank couple of times a year for several of years. Additionally, I stopped using the "maintenance minder" and switched to an OCI of 6k miles, alway 0w-20 full synthetic. This reduced consumption from 1 qt. per 1,500 miles to my current 1qt. per 3,000 miles with 114,000 miles on the odometer. I was inspired me to check my 2007 V6 manual transmission Honda Accord and it's using about a quart every 6k miles. I typically add a half quart midway between oil changes. I'm just curious about other's experience with newer cars and oil consumption. I'm chalking it up to the use of low tension piston rings in the Acura along with its high compression (11:1) engine.
Interesting. The current Honda 2.0/1.5T are not known to consume oil like the older K24 2.4L engine. Did you buy it new? How was it broken-in?2021 Accord 2.0, purchased vehicle October 2022, changed oil December 2022. Used Amsoil SS 0w20 and added 2 quarts over 3000 miles. Stage 2 tune, runs strong with no noticeable fuel smell in the oil. Drained oil, replaced filter, no fuel smell, oil looked decent. I’m thinking the consumption is a result of higher boost, not sure.
Filled with Amsoil SS 5W30 and filter this week. I’m going to run this and see if the consumption decreases, although the warmer weather may have an effect.
Going to send an oil sample sometime between 3k-5k just to get a baseline.
Probably switch to Mobile 1 or another high quality readily available oil in the fall.
Anyone have similar issues with this engine besides oil dilution? One quart per 1500 miles isn’t extreme, but not ideal. I own 2 Toyota NA dual infection car/van that consume nearly zero oil.
Engine had 20,000 miles, purchased the car at 14,000.
