It's not all the way through but it's definitely an area the size of a basketball but only and inch to inch and half deep.

Get a piece of wood the same size as the area affected and screw it into the door. Then save up for a new door. They're like $100 at Home Depot

Patch the door over with a piece of wood. Start shopping for a decent used door. We have a recylce place locally that gets builder excess donated(sort of goodwill of home depot) and you can find stuff like this.

Money tight?

Get a metal or maybe fiberglass door. Any patching you do, your dog will trash or consume. Don't give them a rough surface to get a footing on.

If you attempt a repair and decide to repaint the door, here's a trick that "might" help stop the dog from chewing the door again.

The short version of a long story. Years ago a good customer adopted a rescue dog that had an appetite for her kitchen walls below the chair rail. We fixed and repainted the area twice, after he chewed through the drywall. The third time my brother asked the customer for permission to mix Cayenne Pepper into the paint. The customer was game to try anything. Problem solved. It might help.
