The wifes 2004 Grand Marquis had a pinion seal leak a year ago. Didn't notice anything until I started to hear a slight whine.
Changed the seal and fluid, but still had a slight whine at highway speed. Well it lasted another 35k. The wife said she heard a noise on her way home and the rear end started grinding.
I bought a used unit out of a wrecked 2006 with 25k miles on it to replace it. I'm going to have it filled with mobil one and hope to get another 165k out of it. At least a couple more years until she gets a closer job, to make it worth getting her a new one.
Otherwise this car is great. I don't have to add but maybe .5 quarts during the 7.5k OCI, trans shifts silky smooth. No rust. Hope this works out.
