This piece of 💩 was off of a 2021 Expedition at work. 30k on vehicle. Unknown oil that was in before I did oil change. According to iffy lube sticker, oil and filter had 5,6xx miles on it.

Put in Eco Power 5w30 DEXOS 1 GEN 3 oil and a Auto Extra 618-57502 Made in China.

So glad I didn’t order any of these “filters” from Rock Auto as obviously Purolator or Mann/Hummel or whatever “the company is called now” is doesn’t care about build quality.

I will add this: these PROTEC filters are like $1-1.90 on Rock Auto. This they can tear so buyer beware or you saw it here first. Just a disclaimer and warning

Looks like the cheap Champ\Luber-finer are the king of the jobber filters.
Which is why I got 12 CHAMP filters. Cost more than these but I never saw failure in the 13 years (timeframe work used them) so good enough for me. Plenty of them went way beyond oci specified too.

And I thought these “new PROTEC would be better. Shame on me for thinking 🥱🥱

Happy to hear you didn't buy these. It can be tempting & now we know why they were so cheaply priced. Most "Cellulose" only filters haven't been on my buy list for years & this tearing is why. Thanks for sharing even if it's not all good news.

Junky filter, unfortunately these Protec and similar filters seems to be increasingly used by independent repair/service shops (Unfortunately even some I subscribe to on Youtube). I get it they try to save money but there is zero chance I would put junk like this on a customers car, do right for the customer and spend a few dollars more.

I feel bad for thinking they were a Motorcraft clone. Although they use a silicone ADBV. Shame a MC FL-910S is still $3.97 at my Wal Mart too

Where did that info come from? I don't see it on the Wix website. 🤷‍♂️

So that's saying the Wix XP is the most efficient oil filter they have now ... 99+% @ 23u ... hummm.
Also, when did "regular Wix" become a 15,000 mile filter? That's news.

Since there's no real standard and they can really claim what they want, I take all mileage recommendations with a grain of salt, since they say "upto", and they sell filters for some Euro cars where 15,000mi would be the normal oil change interval then that "upto" could really just be a more aimed at those filters and you should just change the filter as specified by the manufacturer for most application.

Our parts house we use for oil filters, wheel weights etc; the lady brought in this info last Thursday. I was surprised myself.

That would be a big improvement, but nothing on WIX's website showing this, although the WIX XP page does show 91.8% VIO vs the 87% on the image you provided.

Agreed. Super Tech ST claims up to 10k mi, MP series 20k, and best information says only difference is adbv material. And neither filter a media area leader. Fram added silicone adbv to the orange can, went to 10k mi filter, TG now 15k mi filter. Seems, most manufacturers have increased the miles numbers on their filters, so the Wix labled/(Napa Gold) just following the trend it seems.

Further, most add a caveat/disclaimer to, follow vehicle manufacturer's recommended fci.

Oh, this is great. I bought a 12 pack of these from Rockauto last summer. I am pretty sure mine say made in Mexico on the filters I received though. I've bought 2 12 packs of the 51515 size Protec wix and those have all looked great when I cut them open.

It seems these Protec filters are consistently tearing, I would cut your losses and not use them, not worth the risk and if you do use them keep it to 3000 miles max and pray.

They are junk filters, if you need to go cheap consider CHAMP. RockAuto sells the CHAMP filters for less than the Protec filters and in my opinion the CHAMP is a superior filter that I have not seen any tearing on. And if you want a silicone anti-drainback valve then go for CHAMP XL
