P0453 Fuel tank pressure circuit switch code on a 2003 Honda

I have this code that returns soon after I erase it on a new to me Insight. Scan data shows the FTP sensor reading is pegged at the max of 1.16 psi. There is no change in that pressure as I remove the gas cap.

I looked under the car and see these wires just loose in the area of the sensor,

except none of those wires match up with the wiring diagram for the FTP sensor,

I'll take a closer look to see where those go to.

It's a circuit code for fuel tank pressure sensor. There might other things related to it but have to solve this first.

Those wires are the bypass valve.

I think it's related, repair the obvious faulty wires first.

Took the evap canister out and see a few broken wires,

The wires to the sensor are cut clean off,

is this from mice?

I've never seen mice cut through copper cleanly like that.

Sure looks like someone was in there. Was there any evidence of that? Hose clamps not in original position on hoses, loose rust on bolt heads etc?

I had that code on my car. It turned out to be a broken wire that runs behind the fender liner of the right rear.

I wouldn't call that "cleanly". It took almost an hour just to get to it. It's buried up there pretty deep.

After taking the interior apart I pulled the harness inside for a more accessible location for repairs.
