oil filter threads

I've never done this but I'm reading up on a Superhawk and the manual states to oil the oil filter cartridge threads with oil. Never knew this and does it even make sense since oil will soon be all over the innards of the filter.

I just oil the oring and call it a day.

Me too.
I would oil the threads, but first I would have to clean all the oil off them.
Too much work.

I just do the o ring. maybe the threads would be prone to rust our something?

There already is oil on the male threads on the filter mount.

Should be. The nipple should protrude or be exposed on one end or the other to the oil bath.
