Now heat in a car? Who needs that? If the heater core leaks, I'd just bypass it.

Actually, I'm from central Texas and we used to get along here just fine without AC too. It was a luxury, not a necessity. But today we all spend our days sitting in offices that are (stupidly, IMO) cooled to 70 degrees even when its 98 outside, and we're just not conditioned to the heat. Back when I was younger and built fences, jumping in a no-AC truck that had been parked in the sun didn't seem nearly as bad as walking out of the unnecessarily cold office and into a car parked in the sun does.
