gotta love the tin craftsmans. The axle's welds at the ends that hold the spindles are known to separate and drop you right in your tracks. Better off doing the cast iron axle upgrade. I did it for around $22. http://www.mytractorforum.com/showthread.php?t=16239

The freewheeling steering wheel should have been my first clue not to try to drive it! LOL..
The breakage was totally my fault as I reefed on the steering wheel trying to get the machine out of a deep rut one front tire fell into..
Luckily steering components are pretty easy to remove and replace on these. Sears or otherwise.
