Associated Press

BOSTON — Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry doesn't have a problem with his wife telling an insistent journalist to "shove it" when urged to explain her plea for more civility in politics. Neither does Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

"I think my wife speaks her mind appropriately," Kerry told reporters Monday when asked about the exchange between his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry (search), and the editorial page editor of the conservative Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Asked about the response on a morning news show, Clinton said Monday, "A lot of Americans are going to say, 'Good for you, you go, girl,' and that's certainly how I feel about it."

Heinz Kerry attended a Massachusetts Statehouse reception Sunday night for fellow Pennsylvanians, telling them, "We need to turn back some of the creeping, un-Pennsylvanian and sometimes un-American traits that are coming into some of our politics."

She criticized the tenor of modern political campaigns without being specific.

Minutes later, the Tribune-Review's Colin McNickle (search) questioned Heinz Kerry on what she meant by the term "un-American," according to a tape of the encounter recorded by Pittsburgh television station WTAE.

Heinz Kerry said "I didn't say that" several times to McNickle. She then turned to confer with Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (search) and others.

When she faced McNickle again a short time later, he continued to question her, and she replied: "You said something I didn't say. Now shove it."

A spokeswoman for Heinz Kerry later said, "This was sheer frustration aimed at a right-wing rag that has consistently and purposely misrepresented the facts in reporting on Mrs. Kerry and her family."

Vice President **** Cheney (search) recently came under criticism for using a four-letter obscenity in an exchange with Sen. Patrick Leahy (search), D-Vt., on the Senate floor. He later was unapologetic about the remark, saying: "I felt better after I said it."

Kerry's,a little hypocritical,No?

I said a while ago she would implode. Its underway. I'll bet one of the biggest jobs of the Dems will be to muzzle her. But I'm not sure its possible. The beautiful thing is that the mainstream media is beginning to smell blood in the water. Even at the risk of it hurting Kerry-I think they are gonna have a feeding frenzy with her.

If you watch the video, you can see what a tool that journalist was.

Hey, it wasn't the "F" word. Nor was it on the floor of the US Congress.

I wish a few more politicians / spouses would mouth off on the press and challenge them when they run partisan BS as news.

Keith.

You've got to realize, a lot of people around here, including myself, think of Teresa as a complete nutcase, political views aside. She's just plain strange! Futhermore, while this is a state that is predicted to swing democrat, Theresa and Ed Rendell, her friend from this story, are not well liked by a large number of people in the Pittsburgh area. She's got a very defensive attitude when it comes to any conservatives, given her socialist viewpoint.

Let's see, attack the reporter for asking her to clarify her comments, specifically the term un-American. She's using the same tactics as her hubby, say whatever you want and afterwards deny saying it.

She was previously married to a Republican senator, and I assume she had a different viewpoint back then. It would seem her viewpoint is whatever is politically expedient. Reminds me of that loon Ariana Huffington who was an extreme right winger and is now an extreme left winger for no apparent reason. Pretty soon people just stop listening.

"Its kind of nice to have someone shoot straight from the hip me thinks. Right or wrong at least you know where she stands....and not shy about it."

I agree, too bad her b@all-less husband can't do the same. He's too busy telling poeple what they want to hear. Got his head up his as... well, nevermind, it would be an improvement for his looks.

''And at least she didn't exhaust her vocabulary and have to resort to the F word, unlike some.''

'' My, my, it takes a lot of nerve to complain about 'PC', when all you have to do is voice disagreement with the administration to be labeled a traitor, communist, socialist, whatever.''

''What do you call it when the government is allowed to snoop into what books you buy or check out of the library, what websites you visit, and encourages you to tattle on 'suspicious' people?''

''That's pretty harsh, and I think not very true.''

GM, '' I've concluded that the increase in hot air is largely the responsibility of Jerry Falwell.''

MarkC's response '' I concur.''

I can't believe how clueless you liberals are. You turn around a do exactly what you accuse others of. You gripe about everything, and then turn around and gripe about others complaining. Are complaints OK as long as it is about Bush or Falwell, but not Kerry? Shame on me for accurately quoting you.

True, but her late husband was a pretty liberal Republican in the mold of Sen. Arlen Spector, R-PA. Now they're digging up some nasty things she said about Ted Kennedy 20 or 30 years ago.
