have you checked that briggs part # against the wix/fram/purolator/insert filter brand here, website?
I know i recently discovered that the oil filters for my neon, and my dad's cub cadet(w/ kohler motor)were one and the same filters....
you might be able to find one cheaper....
it's odd like that in my app too, the kohler manual says 100hr oci. the cub manual calls for 50 hrs, then refers you to the kohler manual for all maintenance intervals.
I have not done any comparisons yet but will now ,,Thank You and to the other post from---- bds 1984
since i have the time to do this(and i do), and i have a sort of OCD for finding this type of info....
Part Details for the Fram OCOD that should fit Briggs motors Scroll down and you will find a competitor cross reference w/ part numbers for nearly any brand you could ever want.
and i also found this thread from back in '08 on lawn tractor oil filters
thanks Google!)

though frankly if i read the second link right, it's just a shorter 3614, which really opens up your options, (if you have the clearances for the "taller" filter.)
