My wife has a plain mac book, after going through a couple Dell scraptops she thought she'd try something different and it seems to be holding up alot better so far. I'm not a big fan of the OS but it does everything we need it too without a fuss.

I still havent gotten a response that shos me a computer as thin as the MBA, with a 13+" screen.

When I find one that is a PC, Ill absolutely consider it.

Until then, cost is irrelevant, form is function in my case, and Ill pay for both.

But the vaio z is way thicker in practical terms, which is my key metric.

So it isnt paying for something because it is apple, it is paying for something because it gives me the portability I desire in an already overstuffed bag that I carry.

12.1:
29.8 x 22.5 x 2.20~2.90 cm (W x D x H)
1.7 kg, (with 3 cell battery)
1.9 kg (with 6 cell battery)

13.3:
32.2 x 23.3 x 1.48~2.46 cm (W x D x H)
1.50 kg (with 4 cell battery)

15.6:
38.6 x 25.9 x 1.64~2.64 cm (W x D x H)
2.1 kg (with 4 cell battery)); 2.3 kg (with 8 cell battery)

Macbook Air:

Height:0.16-0.76 inch (0.4-1.94 cm)
Width:12.8 inches (32.5 cm)
Depth:8.94 inches (22.7 cm)
Weight:3.0 pounds (1.36 kg)

So the 13.3" asus is close on weight, but that thickness (height) dimension is still 25% larger at equivalent max points...

But it is a good start!!! Thanks!

Ill have to find that 13.3 Asus and look in person...

You are welcome. Check out the entire UL lineup, those are just three of the series. They may have a thinner one.

About your other Windows laptop you have to lug around, you can install Boot Camp in your MBA. Then, you can install Windows in it too, and this will allow you to install your other Windows work applications and files in it. Other options are to install VMFusion Ware or Parallels in the MBA so you can run your Windows apps while running OS X.

It is sad that your question is answered by some of those things.

I finally came back to macs after 14 years of just Windows although I still have about 18 windows machines in my company.

I bought two of them in October, and so far love them. Except for Excel, that is supposed to get fixed before Xmas.

I use the Mac Book Pro, 15 inch, 2.66 Intel core duo with 4 GB ram. it is much better than the PC's., I've redone my sites, and can connect and run almost anything on the other computers, the windows server, etc.

I bought the AIR for my wife. she loves it for it's light weight. The lack of a cd is no issue because the mine can burn from hers. The air does not have the card reader, but I have a reader for different types of cards anyway.

I also bought one of the regular 13" ones for my daughter. My son has two 15" and a 17".

Both mine have excellent video chat, battery life, etc.

My PRO is much faster and the track pad is much nicer than the air. I like the AIR in bed or to just grab and check something.

I don't know where a temperature issue is. The temp is monitored on the top of the screen. On a 95 degree day when I'm running something real intensive, it gets up into the 60's (celsius)(maybe it was 70's) then it slows down until the temp gets down a few degrees.

I use a Time Capsule as a router, so it automatically backs up everything whenever I'm home.

Although the AIR is much lighter, The PRO is lighter than any windows machines this size, and I find it powerful enough to run heavy spread sheets. I'm not sure what would require taking another machine anywhere. This is my work computer.

Widman,

Personally I do like the way OSX works, it is just that I have to use XP due to our development environment and BootCamp is just not the same thing as having a real windows machine, sort of a patchy after though than the well designed system I'm expecting.

Well, I'm getting an SSD soon, so performance should be better than the boot camp drive for sure. I'm also going to buy a real keyboard to use instead of the swapped alt/window keys and missing insert.

I cant run bootcamp on a mac, I have a govt computer that has to be a specific layout, no wireless, etc. Security is the key.
