Considering a 98 Buick Century I found for sale. Car has 22k on the clock and is showroom clean. Car looks great.
Has had a bunch of recent maintenance done to it:
New battery
New brakes
New tires
New struts
New speakers
All fluids changed
Upper and lower intake gaskets
Oil pan gasket
Timing chain cover gasket
Harmonic balancer
Valve cover gaskets
Serpentine belt
Mom had a 2000 Malibu with the 3.1 that drove itself to the scrapyard with 230k on the clock, rotted as can be. I do not have much bad to think about the 3.1. Had a lot of 3.8's, LN3, Series I and II in the family that were good runners.
With some of the problem points (intake manifold gaskets), taken care of... if it is kept oiled, clean, and rust free -- I don't see why this couldn't provide many years and miles worth of service?
Have been looking for a nice 3rd car to add to the fleet for long trips, commute during nice weather, etc. Might be a good unit if the price is right.
