Nothing wrong with making preparations, such as extra food, water, medical supplies, firearms and ammo. Every American should do this already. The standard 3 day supply of food and water recommends by the govt is an absolute joke. Uncontrollable riots and civil unrest are only 4 days away in an emergency... three days worth of food in the country and on day 4 the hungry masses get a little restless and burn their own cities down because the govt isn't there to save them.

I'm being slightly humorous and mostly serious in this thread. In seriousness, Folks, listen to this man - he knows what he's talking about.

funny how the people who whip up survivalist scares help the cottage industry who make a mint off the mindless panic

1 out of 38 million does not an epidemic make. Nor is it really a concern. But it sure makes great news and something to distract us from the other real problems.

Let's put it in perspective.

Flu deaths per YEAR: 30,000
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/09/18/flu-shot-recommendations/15824917/

Ebola deaths this year in Africa: 3,091

You tell me which is more impactful to you and which is an "epidemic"....

The infected person is in Dallas TX, so I'll have no problem staying 30 miles away. j/k.

Well, figure he contacted a couple hundred people after reentering the U.S. through the airlines. So give it a few weeks for other places to pop up. But if it gets into a school system, it will spread very quickly.

The CDC estimates that there could be 1.4 MILLION cases of Ebola in the next 4 months alone. That sounds a bit more impactful to me.

If you ask me, the media are not talking enough about Ebola. 1.4 MILLION CASES. Let that number sink into your head for a little bit. This is huge, and might be he biggest news story of our lives.

I was listening to a virologist talk about Ebola and he was astounded how rapidly this virus mutates, as in it makes tiny little changes in itself sometimes when it recreates itself. Compare a person with Ebola 4 months ago and a person with Ebola today and they are seeing an Ebola virus that looks different. This is huge. Add in a potential 1.4 MILLION cases in just the next 4 months and you have so many more opportunities for the virus to mutate and go airborne. Once it goes airborne, 50% of the worlds population dies within 2 months and about another 40% of the worlds population dies in the next 2 years from hunger, famine, and civil disorder.

The CDC is talking calmly in front of the cameras, but you can guarantee that behind closed doors, they are potentially very frightened of the prospects.

More information on the very rapid mutations noted in this virus:
http://www.nature.com/news/ebola-virus-mutating-rapidly-as-it-spreads-1.15777

Put bluntly, I believe the health officials are seriously downplaying the threat so as not to panic the populace. This needs to be closely watched.

And? If the CDC was concerned about your scenario Africa travel would have been restricted weeks ago and international flights would be quarantined. Yet 3,000 service members are deployed to help the poor nations contain Ebola. Where is the outcry that the U.S. should not be involved in foreign affairs?
