hey guys, got a yukon xl with 3 kids, the carpet is looking pretty beat up and dirty, thinking about replacing the carpet and from what i see that will cost about $250 if i do it myself, anything out there that i can try to use to clean this carpet one last time before i spend $250 on replacing it.... thanks

Go to a professional detailier and have them steam clean it- you will be suprised how much they can clean it up. I had the interior of my minivan steam cleaned and the carpet looked new. Much cheaper than $250

If you search there still may be a car wash spray booth in your area that also has an upholstery shampooer. We have a couple up here that do.

I use the upholstery attachment from my carpet cleaner/shampooer for the house. Works awesome. If you don't have one, buy one. The wife will go for that, because its headed for the house after

. Some are more expensive than others. I repair and donate vacuum cleaners and shampooers to the needy so I've taken apart and rebuilt most of the Walmart type machines. I am very impressed with the Bissell ProHeat 2X shampooer. Very well built, works the best of all the cheapos. When I tear them down the only issue is people leaving the solution in, clogged tubes. but thats just neglect, wont happen if you drain the tanks after use.

How does the detergent you list differ from the other 5 Bissell sells??

$250 will get it professionally cleaned. Steam or shampooed. You can also try and rent one of those rug doctors which will work well. If you want to DIY it I would recommend buying big spray bottle of folex. No foam and will clean just about anything. Spray the carpets down and give it a minute to penetrate, spray once more and scrub with a good interior scrub brush. Then I would spray with water and use a wet/dry vac to suck up the stains and moisture. I tried to give you everything from the most effective to the cheapest. All will yield results but a professional hot water extractor that a reputable detailer uses will be the most effective.

I've had nothing but good things to say about any of the Bissell extractor units both for automotive and car use. I've used a Little Green Clean Machine for 8 years before the pump trigger stopped working, but the vacuum still works fine. We also have one of their carpet shampooers for use over large areas in the house which also has the small 3" wand and a long hose.

Local Toyota dealer does a full interior steam cleaning for $75 - it will be much better than what a LGM can accomplish. If you can find a local dealer that can do an interior-only detail for under $100, that is your best bet...since the professional carpet extractors can deliver more heat and extraction than any consumer unit.

I totally agree but for $100 you'll have the smaller machine for additional usage for many years to come. If you doubt that you would ever use it then a one time expense for a professional cleaning is money well spent.

I sincerely doubt that dealer would do a Yukon XL for $75.

A little bit of Tide in a bucket with warm water and a nylon scrub brush will do wonders. You can use a shop vac to extract the water from the carpet.

LGM works well. Takes a good amount of time to do a car though. I bought home solutions or fresh solutions liquid for it from sears. rated better than bissell products for the lgm.

Folex carpet cleaner.
