Newegg is having sales on pretty much everything. They have some of the bigger named SSDs on sale. Quite a few under $100 for 240-256 Gb.

I did it on my linux box. I had to first create a bootable USB thumb drive with FreeDOS on it, and then fired up the samsung utility from there. It was a bit of a PITA.

Yep that's about expected. the 730 isn't the fastest.
But very reliable. In real use you wont see a difference.
all the samsung SSD's fall into the very reliable category as well.
Even the new "budget" crucial mx100 is very fast if you buy a 512MB model to get enough chips on it for max speed.
