I have some from the 40's still in use and operational.

same here. nothing but a radiator drain with red every couple years.

had some weird engine temp fluctuations some time on the truck in my sig (60k miles). put in a new tstast and it is rock solid now.

our old IH hydro 70 w/D-312(bought it new is the early 70's) has the original tstat and it is going good after 40 years. though it is a low hour tractor 2,000 hours... it still has bits of red paint on the fan belt!

Replace the thermostat today, the rubber part on old thermostat was all distorted causing coolant to go thru. Now car warms up alot quicker and is mpg has improve by 2mpg. Alo replaced the strut bar links on the Freestyle.

I noticed my "fail safe" stat is worn when the temperature goes down when I coast downhill. The new one makes the temperature stay somewhat near the correct temperature.
