Trying to find information regarding how many square inches filter media is in the Honda S2000 filter, 15400-PCX-0400. I also am trying to determine the bypass pressure and have searched without luck for this information. I was considering the Wix 51344, but it appears pricy in comparison ($9.00) to a case of Honda filters and I have seen conflicting measurements of its media area, one stated 165 sq. in. another 196 sq. in. I will be using it in a 2001 Accord V6 and possibly in a 1994 Mazda MX6 V6 which can take the same oversize filter. Presently using Purolater 24458 in the Honda. Using Bosch 3401 (1993 ZR1 application, but with higher 16 lb. bypass) in the Mazda, which appears to raise oil pressure.

The 1344 is comparable to the PL24458 from purolator.

The 1334 is comparable to the PL14459.

The 1344 is priced a bit more than the 1334, but the 1334 is availible in masterpacks of 12 wheras the 1344 i dont think is.

this is speaking of the gold line of filters. The 1334 comes in nascar, silver and gold, whereas the 1344 only comes in gold and silver.

I wouldn't use media area as the only parameter for chosing a filter.

Also, all you have to do is murder an OEM filter to determine its media size.

OEM filter specs aren't usually published.

clutchless, not sure where you're buying your filters, but $9 for a WIX is too much. I get them for $5.50 at my local O'reilly auto parts store. I use the 51334 on my Hondas (01 Odyssey & 98 Civic) but have considered trying the S2000 filter. Just can't convince myself the S2K filter would be any better ... WIX filter is a very solid design, bypass in the front of the filter, silicone ADBV, good flow/filtration (at least according to their specs) and decent media area.

If your using the PL 24458, then you can use the PL 14459. This is a larger filter. Honda went with the 24458 size with the 7th Generation Accords. They are noticable smaller, but make sure you don't have too much of the filter unprotected from the road underneath.

Not sure about filter area, but the approx. internal volume of the 24458 is bigger than the 14459 by almost 8 cu. in. (30.7 cu. in. vs. 22.9 cu. in.) This is based on the measurements from the Purolator web site, using the standard equation for volume of a cylinder.

Schmoe,
It looks like you have transposed your part numbers. The PL 24458 is the oversized version of the PL14459. The PL 14459 is what Purolator recomends for Honda's.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but is there a concensus on the filter media surface area in the pcx-004? Even 165 is quite a bit, considering that the similar-volume ST3593a has 97-5/8 square inches.
