Shuffling around some vehicles, retiring one for yard use and passing an older forestry truck onto one of my maintenance guys. The truck has 380,000kms/237,000 miles. Recommended oil is 5w20, is this a bit exessive for a 5w20? I was thinking being an '01 it must still use 5w30. Oil will be a Chevron Supreme mineral.

From what we know it was not burning any oil before and we have complete service records from new. Absolutely severe dust conditions, but factory Ford air filter was used from day one, no K&N.

Thanks eh!!!

If it isn't consuming oil, then keep running a regular old mineral 5w30.

My '99 F150 with the 4.6 is approaching 170,000 miles. It consumes about a quart every 5000 mile, but runs great on dino 5w30. Its been run on 5w20, 5w30, and 5w40 at various points. All the 5w40 did was kill the fuel mileage.

If the engine is not using oil keep on running what has been used. That is what I would do .Keep us informed on how the engine holds up.

Chevron Supreme is a great oil, and can be had at a great price.

No reason to change horses just because its getting on in mileage. Keep doin what youre doin!!!!

My buddy just bought an 08 crew cab with the 4.6L to tow his boat...not much of a ford fan but pretty good power. Good to know that its possible to get that many miles.

237k is nothing, there are 4.6's/5.4's with over 800,000kms/500,000miles with nothing but regular service intervals running around here (a buddy is a Ford mech in town). Some cabbies with early '90's Crown Vics running 1.2-1.3 million kms, that's 750,000-812,500 miles without going internal. Not too shabby!

Yup, recently saw an '03 Taxi Crown Vic from Toronto for sale, untouched engine, 750,000Km on it.

The 2-valve 4.6 will outlast just about any engine Toyota offers this side of the 22R.
