This isn't a dead horse topic as I can't find a detailed discussion about it on this forum. My brother bought a gx460 1urfe (very very similar to the 3urfe 5.7). He lives in a very hot climate all year round in the usa. If I were him I'd be running 5w30 despite the reccomended 0w20. From My oil research there doesn't seem to be a huge difference between those two different grades of oil. But from my research toyota/lexus reccomends 0w20 only in the usa, and other countries they are told to run 5w30- 15w40. I want total confidence to tell him to run 5w30 or 0w30 over 0w20. Anyone have any more info on this topic? Any advice

It’s common for people to put their vehicles in their signatures. 2010 GX460. 5w30 will be fine.

Cooling system maintains oil temperature. Heat per se is not an issue as for example altitude is. That is where system might not be sufficient bcs. air density.
In GX460 cooling system is more than sufficient to deal with any ambient temperature for type of duties vehicle is made.
Also, when one runs thicker oil, resistance increases =more heat.
I personally would run 5W30, but just info that running engine at Vail Pass in CO in 80 degrees is more strenuous than running vehicle at ANY temperature in TX or FL.

I have a 2019 GX460 and have posted several UOAs, including Mobil 1 AFE 0w30 (Jan 26, 2023). Expecting another UOA any day now from blackstone - again with m1 AFE 0w30 and 7k plus miles on the oil (mailed mid August…)
My latest fill is 5 qts castrol edge 0w20 and 3 qts castrol edge 5w40.
