Red Line doesn't actually recommend their 10W-60 for any BMW. There's a picture of the bottle to show that it's available but they actually recommend their 5W-30 for the E46 M3 for street and track use. As you know, with it's HTHSV of 3.8cP it's better thought of as a 40wt oil and due to the fact that it is VII free will be thicker in operation than M1's 0W-40.
 
Their page says: "Popular for newer BMW M-cars applications like E46 M3 and E60 M5".

I agree it's probably too thick for that app with an HTHS of 6.7, hence my suggestion to thin it out a bit. At that point you may as well just get the 5w50 or something (HTHS = 5.9), or 5w40 and thicken it a touch.
