You called me out on my post and you are 100 percent correct! Let me explain though, for whatever it's worth..

I admit that I got lazy when I made the post and assumed that the 3/8" HF and Snap-On versions of this ratchet are as similar to each other as the 1/4" versions. Well, they are not, however the 1/4" drive HF version that they offer now is different than the version that I based my claim on. I purchased the 1/4" drive HF version that is in my possession right now in 2011, and it has 72 teeth and is a very similar size to the current Snap-On version. The version offered by HF now has only 42 teeth. I don't recall if I held both in my hands at the same time in 2011 and thought they were identical, or if I handled them at different times. I am going to assume that I held them at different times and came to that conclusion when in reality they are just VERY similar.

I have personally verified this.

I have this HF ratchet and it's fantastic. Both the 3/8 and 1/4. Also have the 3/8 Autozone clone of the snap on. It's not bad but lacks the quick disconnect. Really hard to pull small sockets off.

HF makes a decent clone, some of their ratchets are actually quite good and an excellent value for the money, their composite is one of my favorites in the cold weather. The new version has even stepped it up a notch.

Agreed!!

Lately my go-to, grab first ratchet has been the Tekton 14932. I suspect it is the same high polish, low profile, 72t 3/8 ratchet that HF once had, but I can no longer find on their site. Not taking anything away from the Carlyle, I just don't need all that length all the time.

Funny, Amazon dropped the 14932 but has the 14933 which is just the 1/2" version. But I did find it at the BORG, a very detailed listing with a good price:
