My son has a gas log fireplace with two switches, one for flame and a second turns on two receptacles for a fan (not supplied).

We bought a fireplace fan, but both receptacles are too shallow to fully accept the plug. We wired the plug, it did not come with the fan. I suggested cutting off some of the plug. The fan is very low current draw (35 watts).

Do you think this is okay or is there another solution?

Seems strange!

When the plug is inserted (as far as it goes)
Does it make electrical contact?

How much further does it need to go in?

Obviously they are not. They are 2-prong black plastic receptacles pressed into a metal box. They are not polarized.
