I'm changing the oil in my girlfriend's Monte Carlo this weekend so I picked up a Purolator Classic 25288 and noticed it doesn't have a bypass valve. I went to Purolator's website to get some more info and sure enough on the filter description it says that it doesn't have a pressure relief valve, at least I know I didn't pick up a faulty filter.

Anyone know why some filters don't have pressure relief valves?

Yup. Same goes for engines using cartridge filters - bypass is somewhere else.
