Dexron VI backward compatible?

Only 2005 and prior models that currently use DEXRON®-III may use DEXRON®-VI as a replacement.

This is the part that is subject to confusion. When Dexron III was released, it was backward specified for ALL transmissions that used Dexron or Dexron II. So does the above sentence mean "All 2005 and prior models that use Dexron III may use Dexron VI," or does it mean "All 2005 and prior models that came with Dexron III may use Dexron VI"?

Since GM is no longer going to license Dexron III, one would presume the former rather than the latter. But who knows...

Makes you wonder how LAME the Dexron-III(h) spec really is.
Look how superior it is to DexronIII!

Clutch Friction Stability Improved 100%(better longer lasting friction modifiers?)
Clutch Durability Due To Fluid Improved 120%(how? temp drop?)
Oil Film Thickness Increased 20%(with lower viscosity?)
Fluid Oxidation Improved 100%(additive or better basestock?)
Foam/Aeration Improved 150%(additive?)
Shear Stability Improved 200%(basestock or ratio of viscosity improvers to basestock??)

Really makes you wonder what DexronXXVIII will be like

I'll just stick with my synthetic boutique ATF's, especially in those so-called trannies that must have OEM fluid. HA!!
