Dedicated license plate thread.

Was in my grandfather’s shop for a while today and snagged these pics. He probably has a few thousand more that aren’t hung. Maybe they’ll go up in my building some day.

Some more plates that are in my collection. Bottom picture is motorcycle plates which I have more of that’s just some of them. All except the 998060 have been hung up. I need to hang the others up to the Massachusetts and Utah ones. I have more coming from eBay and Facebook too that are some cool ones.

Edit to add: just received more Massachusetts plates from a forum member which I will also be posting probably tonight.

Is the purpose of this thread to post pictures of our collections, or post our personalized plates?

I have at least 50 plates in my collection - all cars I have owned. When I get finished re-orginizing my garage, I will hang them up and post a pic.

My personalized plates I have had or now have...

Chevy Silverado and Iowa State Cyclone fan
CYLVRDO

Buick Regal TourX
TOURX

Moto Guzzi Stelvio
STELVIO

Husky Vitpilen
VITPLN

Chevy Colorado ZR2
TATONKA
I believe there is a separate "Personalized Plates" thread(s) here somewhere, so this one is for collections, or really anything plate related.

Here are some plates that showed up today. From @Pablo. They will clean up nicely. My favorite is by far the California. These are hard to find in good shape with this style. The Oregon are pretty cool because the faded looking ones like this were only made for one year from 88-89 so I’m really happy to have those. The modern Oregon ones are this same design just more bright and bold. And I have liked the Washington old school font too been wanting to find one of those now I have a few lol. Thanks Pablo.

Mississippi Choose Life license plate. Not quite as bright and noticeable as Virginia for sure lol. I have two Florida Choose Life plates on the way as well as some others too. This one is from eBay the others are from Facebook groups. I also have someone sending me a NC regular plate and watermelon plate just it will be a bit as they just lost their child so I told them to send it whenever they could and just focus on their child right now. Her step dad is giving me the watermelon plate for free so I gave her some money to help with funeral expenses for her daughter. The amount I donated was the amount I felt the plate was worth and it’s a rare plate so it wasn’t cheap.

The plates on my dads car. These have a bad problem of bubbling these particular design there is slight bubbling beginning next to the 4 on the left side so that means a new set of plates is going to be ordered. I’ll check with him and see what he wants to get. Perhaps another set of Lighthouse plates, maybe he will want another set of these. I don’t know yet he has been saying he wants some new ones. Mom has the Kids First ones on the way that will Read LVKIDZ on them.

It would seem that Gary really likes those plates. He has a big smile on his face as he's looking up at them. :sneaky: 🍻

Two I haven’t shown here yet at least not in awhile. The Kids First pair was on our 2004 Camry from 2010-2018 and on our Jeep from 2009-10. They were transferred to the 2004 Camry when we bought it because that was moms car. They were getting old and worn and where my dad hit a dog they were bent up so we retired them in 2018 for the Dont Tread On Me plates which I showed earlier. The original month stickers on them were January and switched to March when we ordered the Dont Tread On Me plates because when you order new plates they send you a two month extension. My mom just ordered her a new set of Kids First plates that will say LVKIDZ on them. Which they fit her perfectly she loves kids especially little ones which is also why she works in a school so I’m glad she got the ones she wanted. Her first set of personalized plates lol. They should be here Monday.

The Heritage State Bird (Cardinal) plates which is the 3rd leading most popular design since its release in 1992 with the Scenic Mountain to Seashore plates being second and regular being first. These are from eBay because they are a beautiful plate. Personally it’s probably one of my favorites. I wanted my parents to get some of those when I was a kid too but my dad doesn’t like them. They are the same price as regular plates. My grandma had some of these however she gets paranoid and won’t let me have any plates because she has always turned them in to make sure she doesn’t get in trouble lol. You won’t get in trouble for keeping them this isn’t New York or Rhode Island lol. This plate number is still taken in the system so someone must of just got a different design in 2008 or just got a new set of these or something. I might get my BLAKEW combination on these at some point.

Picture from last night when I was adding more plates to one of the boxes. No more room in that box and it’s very heavy lol. Time to start the third box. I think when I get paid I’m going to buy a pair of Rhode Island plates to complete my 50 state run that’s the only state I lack. I need to hang up a lot of these I just don’t want pops to know about all the holes in his walls lol 😂.

Out with the old and in with the new on moms car. The new plates describe her perfectly she loves kids and always puts her kids or any kids before her. As you can see this is her second set of these plates the first ones weren’t personalized. I kind of like the bird ones better lol. But that’s just me not my car so if she is happy that’s what matters plus another set for my collection. I like the Kids First plates just wouldn’t be my first choice. The reason she got them when I was little is because I begged her too lol. I think that’s where my fascination with license plates started haha. The screws in the back were very seized so I used a little anti seize on them. I was worried they were going to break off.

More license plates. Some I’ve added over time. These were bought in November or so. Actually the Alabama were sent to me by a member here. Just trying to post all my pictures on this thread lol. Also just got my ALPCA membership number today after waiting almost a month. If anyone has plates with the number 14121 on them let me know. That’s my ALPCA number. (Automobile License Plate Collectors Association) for those wondering.

Mail call today from my fellow collector friend and ALPCA member Andrew. Thank you for the plates again. Dealt with him several times and met him at my work once too. Great guy. Helped me complete my 50 state run.

First plate up is a Mississippi National Guard US Armed Forces Retired plate.

Next Mississippi National Guard plate with a message on the back about being donated from the state DMV. Probably something most states DMV wouldn’t do so that makes me like Mississippi even more.

After that a standard set of Virginia plates VYS-2700 on the March 2014- present base of Virginia is for Lovers which I absolutely hate that saying but it is what it is lol.

Next my first set of the yellow Virginia antique plates. Must have been on a 1991 Mercedes Benz. Look gently used and probably not used for that long. You can’t type in antique plate numbers on the system to find out what car they were on. I’ve never had luck trying to find the antique plate numbers. Not even the ones on the Beetle show up.

Next the pair that helped me reach all 50 states arguably the hardest state to get because they come after you if you don’t return plates or at least that used to be the case. Rhode Island. I like pairs as I believe if a state has two plates then I need both for my collection. I don’t have a problem with singles but the pairs are great. Little rough shape but he gave me a good price on them for them being Rhode Island. They just switched over to flat plates at the beginning of this year which is disappointing.

Next a pair of Virginia plate when they first started the X series as they go backwards for most series. XYH-3180. Not sure on the vehicle these could have been on either you can only track it back to three years. I like this base much better than the Virginia is for Lovers one.

Next another standard issue set YCJ-7457. I only had two sets of the Y series and one set of the X series plates so I wanted another pair of each and only had a few other sets of the V series. Still need another U series and still have to find a T series one.

Then a Kentucky Choose Life plate. Trying to get a Choose Life plate from all the states that offer them.

Thanks again Andrew you are a great guy to deal with. We are from the same state too. I also ordered a sample yellow antique motorcycle plate with my ALPCA number on it from the DMV so we will see when that gets here. ALPCA 14121 for those wondering. Bet we don’t have any other ALPCA members here on BITOG.

Here is a comparison of both designs of Virginia Antique License Plates. I personally have always liked the black ones better. In this area you see about the same amount of each. Both these sets came from a collector in Arlington Virginia who I know. The black ones were on his car. He gave me the registration too. On a 1968 Datsun then he switched to YOM plates like I have on the Beetle. The black ones were never mounted. The Yellow ones he got from someone else not sure what type of Mercedes they were on but I’m just not as big a fan but at least you can get the yellow ones personalized. The black ones you cannot. It’s rare to find the personalized ones. I paid a good price for them but I needed the yellow ones for my collection. He had a single but I always try and get pairs when available.

Here is some plates I acquired in a trade. The Tennessee one I believe is for a truck. The New York are from the 80s. I know I’m rough shape but I try to help when I can. A collector needed 3 more states to complete his collection and I had them. A Connecticut, Virginia and South Dakota. I had some singles of each that I bought off someone for the purpose of trading or selling. I would never spilt one of my own pairs. New York is harder to get so I didn’t mind trading. Granted these are the plates they basically told everyone just to keep because there was so many pairs that they didn’t want people bringing them back lol.
