Can I save filters after being oiled but not used?

I have an oil filter that by mistake I used for the wrong aplication(almost). I filled it full of oil and then realizaed it was the wrong one.

I also recently did it with a gas filter. I installed it on a boat but then realized when it leaked that the inlet/outlet of the filter were too small.

Can I save these and use them sometime later?

Sure, why not? Throw it in a zip-lock bag and hold on to it 'til you need it.

Agreed....just seal it from contaminants and the fresh oil inside will still be fresh when you need it.

I'd leave the gas filter on a shelf in a ventilated area until it airs out thoroughly.

The fuel filter I would follow the suggestions. However, I would be concerned that the media in the oil filter may begin to degrade, and perhaps, start weakening placing your car at risk of a filter failure.
