California Could Be Next Oil Boom State

The big impact is allowing Muslim extremists to gain a foothold in the American news market.

It's both an economic boon and a political one for them. Qatar put up the money to start AJ, and it is basically state run propaganda, despite what other 'journalists' say.

Would we invite the Chinese government to broadcast in our country? Qatar makes China seem rather kind...

Murdoch wants you to hand in your gun, just like Australia.

Guess that's a take home message re Faux...who argued that "journalism" was "entertainment", and therefore didn't have to be true.

Without trying to be political I'll respond like this:

Yes it is a state run propaganda by focusing AWAY from Qatar, everyone in ME except Qatar is covered pretty intensively, maybe even more than BBC, AP, NHK, Reuters, and Xinhua, but they are certainly not someone that just call everyone in the US a redneck like you call them Muslim Extremeists.

Do you even watch them or do most American even get their broadcast? I don't think so unless you have some huge dish or pay extra for the cable package. I'd say most American get more pornography pay per view than AJ. Those with business or ties to ME (i.e. finance or energy sector employees) or those who immigrate from there, may watch it, but that's about it.

Chinese government already broadcast in this country, haven't you watch it yet (hint, you can pay extra to get it on cable or dish)? Maybe you should switch away from Fox news once in a while. Oh, they also broadcast as infomercial in major channels like CBS, Fox, NBC, ABC with paid interview of their businesses like Huawei (the company that competes with Cisco and Juniper for network equipments and was owned / founded by former military personnel).

Oh BTW, have you even watch Al Gore's network? For once? Nope, neither have I. So where's the BIG IMPACT?

May I suggest that you are only paranoid of anyone from ME? I'd stop here instead of accusing you of something else.

I agree with this statement but anyone who thinks Fox News is actually news needs their heads examined. The daily show and Colbert report offer more actual news than anything fox has running. Fox News is no different than AJ once you truly break it down. Both are so slanted any actual news is lost somewhere and both are trying to push an agenda more than actually trying to inform anyone.

I call them extremists because they openly advocate Sharia law. In America we are not allowed to treat women like they do, nor do we cut off hands for theft and such. We have friends who are devout Muslims and they are completely horrified by the Muslim Extremists. And that is kinder than calling them terrorists, which many of them are. The "regular" Muslims are horrified by the radical element and wish they would stop their bombings and other violence. Most normal Muslims are very nice neighbors.

Qatar is NOT on my list of places to retire! They fund and harbor terrorist organizations! Maybe you'll visit there sometime and let me know how nice it is. I am always impressed by the enlightened elite who imagine they are somehow above the so called 'rednecks'. That kind of thinking is just as narrow minded as any hard core right winger. I'll bet many a redneck would stand up and fight if needed while the elite left would cower in their booties and hide.

Actually a redneck is not that bad of a thing to be called. I'd sure rather be a redneck than an ivory tower elitist with ideals that shift like the wind.

The only reason a station like Fox even exists is because so many people dislike the obvious media agenda in this country by the majors. It's blatant, and thus there will be opposition to it.

Look at the ratings. They are self explanatory. The elite created the market for Fox. And business is booming for them because of the natural search for balance in a free media market. If you would give it a bit of thought you might appreciate the fact that we live in a free country and differing viewpoints are not a reason to put down anyone, but another reason to be thankful America still exists.

My closest bud who is a track rat like me is a hard core lefty. We have spirited discussions and shake our heads at each other often! But we are still close friends and care about each other on a personal level. My wife is hard left of center! That doesn't make her a bad guy. The point is that right wingers are people too, and may be just as smart as the lefties imagine they are. Get out and meet people OUTSIDE of your normal circle of friends. As my Dad taught me "people who impress you, not people you can impress".

Colbert is a comedian. That he uses the news for material is nothing new or original. Can you imagine that some people don't think he's very funny? He is great in a sound bite and can really make me howl, but as news his slant and agenda is rather blatant also. You simply can't assign blame to anyone for being human and having a natural bias.

Quote of the year...but not in the good way.... LOL

And of course Colbert and Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz have no agenda?

It's actually kind of sad that our youth consider Colbert to be "news", which may not even be available anymore!

So, are you calling AJ extremists or Qatar? If the first I think you have some analytical problem separating a news media that is doing not bad of a job vs "them all". If the 2nd, sure, but that's not the correct argument as I sure wouldn't consider all employee of Georgia Pacific a right wing nut job, so I don't think it is fair to call everyone in AJ network "extremist".

Trust me, I would have used a more provocative word as an alternative of "Redneck" to describe the comparison but that would probably violate the forum policy. When did I call all the rural hard core right winger "redneck"? I'm making an example to compare what you call them vs what they call you. Maybe I should use a more hostile word more comparable to Muslim Extremeist (i.e. like Klan's people or something like that).

You also are drawing in innocent people who didn't call you any name. What's wrong with making a comparison to what you do vs the opposite? Can't you even just listen and understand an argument before accusing people of calling you name, or who is actually willing to defend his/her nation? (with truth instead of brain washing propaganda, everyone who got brain washed would fight for a clause, like many of the Muslim Extremists you loath so much).

First you have to define an ivory tower elitist with ideals that shift like wind. When the reality of politics is shifting like wind and stock market movement, allies and enemies shift like wind and stock market movement. Them commies Chinese was once our enemy because they align with them commies Russian and fight us in Korea, then them commie Chinese broke into a fight with them Charlies Vietnamese and then broke up with them commies Russian. Now them Chinese switch from commies to feudalism and trade with us, are they friend or ally? Depends on when you ask and who you ask.

They have a market not because of their news (although they may have a market for news because everyone else on the opposite of the spectrum is fighting for a bigger pie and Fox is a monopoly for a small one). Just like Apple's OSX is only from Apple, but you can buy a Windows PC from everyone. So if you look at Apple it has the biggest single company market share, but they are still smaller than all the rest of the competitors add together.

Fox also do very well with their non news program, like American Idols, and all the other dramas they are playing. Oh, we have Fox here too in the leftist capital of the US, they are called KTVU channel 2 and they never use any of the Fox national network news articles or reporting. Pretty smart as a business by giving your audience what they want to hear rather than what you professionally think is true, right?

So, are you watching news? or are you watching what you want to see from your point of view?

The oil industry is nothing new in California, Bakersfield and the surrounding area were built by the oil industry. You can find active oil wells all over southern California including downtown LA and Beverly Hills. I drive past exploration rigs quite often and I see exploration equipment from Halliburton, Pacific Petroleum, etc on the highway daily. Three local tank manufacturers are hiring and working overtime. I work with a company that provides support equipment for oil exploration (among many other industries) designing and building a piece of equipment that's used for oil exploration and they are buying equipment and expanding.

As long as you aren't messing up the view from the shore with offshore oil rigs people don't notice what's going on.

Panda, without writing a book, here's a brief synopsis of my views on Muslim Extremists. I have Muslim clients and friends, they are wonderful people and great to know. Most of them tell me they are HORRIFIED by the perversion of their religion that is used to incite violence. Many of them hide their religion just like the Coptic Christians do in the ME. They are NOT extremists/terrorists.

I have a HUGE problem with people who advocate killing women and children, cutting off heads and other body parts, and Sharia law in general, especially the values relating to women who are essentially property. They openly advocate murder of Christians and Jews! I also tend to look with great disdain on folks who support them.

Qatar FUNDED AJ. Hello? Their objectives are clear. Giving them any foothold in our gullible TV market is a treasonous act in my book.

I respect your opinions but they do not represent the values and beliefs I was raised with. I come from a place that says I must respect your beliefs, but I do not have to agree no matter how negatively you manage to frame your argument.

SteveSRT8,

Agree with most of your statement above in general, except the part that if someone fund an organization it must have the same believe and ideology.

I don't believe there were avocation of Shaia law in AJ's broadcasting. They do have a bias like all media out there, but they pretty much stop at broadcasting tapes that terrorists send them. My understanding is AJ hasn't got on the news headline of other media (US or in Asia) by making radical Extremist statement, and they are reputable and was referenced in many ME related news by other media companies in Asia.

I believe that while every one should have suspicion of what others said, especially the medias, politicians, and non profit organizations (i.e. churches, "think tanks", universities, etc) until proven otherwise, past behaviors should be an indication of what this organization really represents. So far I've been disappointed by many organizations for various reasons, including AJ for their willingness to broadcast terrorists statement during hostage or suicide attack situations, I don't think it is enough to say AJ is Muslim Extremist.

However, I've heard enough paid "politically incorrect" statement from AJC (a different, politically and religiously opposite organization) on radio to think negative of AJC. They've also changed their statement from mentioning their organization's full name to just calling themselves AJC on the radio. IMO when you have to hide your name when making a statement, you immediately lost your creditability.
