BMW N55 Turbo-charged Engine Oil

People are worried about 250F oil temps? Pretty much any engine that pushes more than 100 hp per liter can do this. Exotics on the track can easily see 280F, and they have oil coolers and very large oil capacities. 250F is nothing synthetic oil can't handle. Just change the oil at 7500 mi.

At what temp do they pull back the power? It seems like if 250 is the middle of the gauge it would be able to run there all day.

300F is when the M5 cars I drove on the track cut power.

Remember that reaction rates of oxidation, nitration, and other bad reactions doubles for every 10C or 18F so that curve is very steep. That is according to the Arrhenius equation.

While true, there are also antioxidant adds which help prevent this. LC20 should also help stabilize...
