I see one by Monster for $25, and another (converts tape deck into input for music player, iPhone, etc) with the adapter AND a USB power base for iPhone for $8.21. Any difference between the two? Thanks!

I read that there is some kind of a way to mute the Apple speaker, plug it in, and the audio of the call will go through car stereo while the microphone picks up the speech? (It is either that, or have a JVC installed when we take the car to Sam's, some sort of package work deal.. head unit with iPhone control.. unsure how that goes as to "Call through the car speakers.")

iPhone 4, yessir
You don't have to mute anything. You can just plug the phone in, and the audio will automatically be routed through the car speakers, and the microphone on the phone will still be used.
