True in a way. A 15-50 is a low viscosity oil that
Does not thin out much when hot.

In his second interview with Amsoil he said he went with the 15w50 because Amsoil told him it would give him more HP than 20w50?

Most likely true as a lighter oil will aid in fuel economy, just look at all the 0-20 oil that is out there these days. Its only purpose is for increased fuel mileage.
