Looking for a recommendation on oil and filter for my 1994 Ford Ranger. I did a search here for similar cases, but didn't readily find one, so here goes. From the sticky:
1. 1994 Ford Ranger 3.0 engine, manual transmission
2. Owner's manual recommends SAE 5W-30.
3. I live in Northern Virginia
4. I drive easy; I think I went 80,000 miles before the brakes needed work. I change the oil usually at 3000 miles, but I'll drive it up to 5K if I can't get to it.
5. Currently, daily drive is less than three miles (four stop signs/lights). Weekends get some longer duty, around town, maybe a trip out of town to pick up something from a store, etc.
6. Engine has always used some oil (at least since about 35,000 miles). I usually have to add a half quart between oil changes.
I currently use Castrol GTX 5W-30 and Fram filters.
Would a switch to Havoline make any difference?
Josh
My goal is to get 8+ more years out of this vehicle, which would take me up until retirement.
