195/65r-14 tires

The car accelerates great under all conditions. Im not worried about mechanical advantage.

It appears that early E30 cars, such as the 84 325e ran 195/60R14. This would be for a heavier AT/6cyl car.

If that size was used on earlier E30s, it's probably OK. Maybe find out what the GVWR was on those and don't exceed that.

I think we may have differing opinions on "great" acceleration. I will note that a 318i may have better acceleration than my 505TD, which I still think is a good car.

The 1991 318i was a much improved car over the 1984-85 318i cars. I think the '91 had around 130 hp, and the early cars had 90 hp or something ridiculously low!

It's a shame the 195/65/14 tires are rapidly fading away. I installed a set of BFG Traction T/A tires about two years agon on my E30, and before that Dunlop SP Sports. Both very good, but I am not looking forward to replacing.

You'll have to let us know how the downsizing goes. That might be the best option.

I ran the 195/65R-14 Michelin Harmony on my 2000 Civic last year, I believe they were around $75 a tire from Tire Rack. Good tire.

Hey JHZR2, did you ever get those Michelins? I was looking at a load inflation table for a tire size change on one of my own cars and I was reminded of this thread.

By the way, it looks like a 4 psi increase in tire pressure will get 195/60R14 tires to have the load capability of 195/65R14 tires--provided that doesn't force you to exceed the 36 psi limit.
