    A/C Compressor Refrigerant Oil

I will be replacing the A/C compressor on my 2000 Taurus, with the 3.0L Duratec engine, this week. I've emptied 5 oz. of shipping oil from the new compressor. I'm looking to refill it with BG Universal Frigi-Quiet (Part No. 7018E) Refrigerant Oil, which is a synthetic. Ford specifies YN12B PAG...

1993 Honda Civic DX--122,000 Miles Symptoms. Engine cranks but will not start. “Check Engine Light” (MIL) stays on. When the service check connector terminals were jumped, the MIL did not indicate any Diagnostic Trouble Codes. You hear the first click from the main relay’s first relay, but not...

    Fuse Testing

The easiest and safest way to test under-hood and under-dash fuses is with a digital multi-meter. Set the meter on audible ohms, touch the leads to the two small metal test points (on top of each fuse), and listen for the beep. You can test all fuses in your car in 1% of the time it takes...

Mobil 1 ATF in 1999 F350 7.3L PowerStroke Turbo Diesel

With 122,000 miles on the ATX, decided to give Mobil 1 Multi-Vehicle ATF a try. Dropped pan, changed filter, drained converter, and filled with 17 quarts of fluid. Shifting is noticeably better than with the conventional Mercon. It improved even more after disconnecting the batteries overnight...

    Lubricating Firearms with Turbine Oil

The same properties that make turbine oil the proper lubricant for oiling most electric motors would appear to make them ideal for lubricating firearms. They readily separate from water, thereby not creating acids that can attack metals, and they are high temperature, non-detergent lubricants...

    Alternator Bearings with Synthetic Grease

Does anybody know if alternator manufacturers are starting to use synthetic grease in their bearings? Seems like some of the alternators with lifetime warranties should, but does anybody know for sure? Autolite claims they have "proprietary" bearings in their alternators, but I don't know what...

Seeking Comments on a Novel ATF Drain Procedure

Many people, in order to completely drain the pan and torque converter, disconnect the hose coming out of the cooler, start the engine, and pump the system dry into a container. Then, they drop and clean the pan, replace the filter and pan, and refill with ATF. Here's an alternative, for pans...

Amsoil ATF and In-Line Transmission Filter

I run Amsoil Universal ATF in my 2000 Taurus AX4N transmission. Having installed a B&M drain plug, I drop the pan and change the filter every 30,000 miles. Amsoil's Technical Dept. doesn't see any need to use an in-line filter. What are your thoughts?

10 Year Old Castrol Syntec 5W-50

As part of my therapy program, I'll be dumping my last 3.5 qts. of 10 year old Castrol Syntec 5W-50 in my '93 Civic, "The Worm." Hope it doesn't get constipated. Therapy is painful . . . hope I won't have to go through this again. No more using the latest and greatest. I find solace in knowing...

    What is GC Gold's HT/HS?

I talked to some woman at Castrol, who was less than useful, who told me German Castrol 0W-30 had a HT/HS of 2.95@150 degrees C. I can't believe that. Does anyone really know? She refused to give me the Noack Volatility--it is "proprietary." [ August 10, 2005, 10:17 PM: Message edited by...

    SuperTech Synthetic

The market must think this is a pretty decent product. The word must be out. Just came back from the local WalMart and four shelves of the 5 qt. ST synthetic were sold out. $11.88 is pretty hard to beat.
