Wow, I have never seen this issue before. How long did this happen after the oil change? Either manufacturing defect of the gasket or the gasket was not fully seated when the oil filter was installed and the oil filter cut the gasket. I tend to go with the first option though.

I would probably try to break off that piece of glue and then use the filter. But I am more adventurous than most. I wonder if rockauto will pay for shipping it back, or contact them, they might just refund you and tell you to keep the filter.

Fiber end caps would have saved this filter from tearing.

That filter is made in Brazil. While nothing would happen if you ran that filter, I would buy the Supertech ST11665 for $2.97, and made in the USA.
