Thoughts on oil (and filter) for Subaru Turbos?

First off, sorry about not replying to your question from a while ago! Just never saw it. larger, black Subaru filers...hmmm, do they say tokyo roki on them? If so, you made a great choice there! Also, where did you find them? I did some work on an '08 Legacy GT (very similar engine to yours)...

Thoughts on oil (and filter) for Subaru Turbos?

If it has the clearance, run a pureone PL14460. No pointless ADBV, proper bypass pressure, and lots of filter media inside. Clearance with the exhaust system can be an issue though. I can't recommend Rotella T6 enough though.

Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 in my Subi EJ22 for 12-14k?

Fellow subaru owner here. The manual recommends 7500 miles. If you do a UOA at that point, you'll find that it's good, honest advice-that is, your TBN will be shot by then. Really, my main concern with that motor is running a thin oil in it for a long period of time may not help if your rear...

    03 camry and oil consumption

1500 miles? That's it? I was around the 140k marker on the Toyota, and it was gulping down a quart a month. The fix? replace the PCV valve. Trust me, it has nothing to do with what kind of oil you're running.

    Is Napa oil really valvoline.

Yes, but the additive pack is a bit different.

    New: Shell Rotella 0w-40

Link: http://www.vehicleservicepros.com/press_...cold-conditions Copy/paste of article: Shell Lubricants has introduced Shell Rotella T6 0W-40, a full synthetic heavy duty diesel engine oil which is designed for extreme cold conditions. Shell Rotella T6 0W-40 uses free flowing synthetic base...

    Castrol Edge With Syntec 5W-40?

I've been running T6 since the 89k marker, and have 117k on my '03 now. No, the zinc will not destroy your cats. What zinc will do is save your bearings and turbo spindle. Also, you will notice just how quiet your engine will run on it, especially when warmed up. If you have not either gutted...

    PEAK OIL users step forward

I ran five quarts of their 5w-30 conventional and an STP filter in my '03 WRX through a winter for about 4k. Engine didn't explode.

New Car, are oil additives worth it?

I know this has been mentioned a couple times, but why not just have your dealership use synthetic oil when they do the change? I think I'd rather have syn in there instead of dino+some sort of additive IMHO. Also, keep the car itself into consideration-is it the sedan or hatchback? manual or...

NextGen MaxLife Product specs...what say you?

Maybe Moving to Super Tec Synthetic in Camry

Dooooo eeeeit! Had a '93 Camry that I ran up to 235k-while a little gutless, that sucker was a bulletproof motor. Only thing to watch out for are possible headgasket issues-didn't happen until 180k on mine, but it does come up. If you lived any closer, I'd try to buy it from ya

I want to say back in '96? Off top of head answer.

    Thin 30-weight in a 1996 Subaru Legacy 2.5L H4?

Really though, any off the shelf 5w-30 synthetic is going to be pretty thin. Take your pick - Castrol, Mobil, Pennzoil, they're all going to be on the thin side anyway, and cost a lot less. My other concern is that a lot of older EJ22-EJ25's start to develop a little bit of blow by after the...

    5W-20 for a 1996 Subaru Legacy Outback 2.5?

Use a 5w-30 of some sort. Edit: the easiest way to tell the difference is that the 95/96 outbacks did not have a hood scoop, and the 97-onward ones did.

Oil Filters for Police Package Crown Victorias

I would like to point out a very important consideration when it comes up maintaining a fleet vehicle such as a police car, and that is not miles driven, but hours ran. You see, a police car, like a Kansas farm tractor, spends a lot of time doing one thing in particular-sitting at idle. Think...

Any thoughts on Hankook Mileage plus II

It's an all season tire with an 80k treadwear warranty. Think that almost speaks for itself. They were one of the cheaper tires in 205/65/15 as well, which didn't hurt. I bought them because the '03 Camry gets mostly used for highway/commuting-they're not performance tires in any way. Turn the...

Running syn in a car with 125k/10 years old ?

Thanks for the advice guys, just scrubbed my hands and arms...yeah, I had my heart set on running some sort of syn in it myself. Showed her the jug of QSUD, talked about how it was really good etc. Someone told her once that you needed to run syn from day one (I know, I know), so I just put in...
