Oil suggestions for a STI, Celica and BMW 530

Out of warranty, the Amsoil AMO 10W40 would be great in your Florida summers. I would then run the Amsoil 0W30 for winter. If you want one year round oil, the Amsoil DEO is 5W40 and loaded with zinc. STi's love zinc. That's why they hate Mobil 1. ;-)

Which Amsoil for 2001 and 2006 VW TDI?

Thank you for the suggestions folks! Does anyone know that the specification differences are for 505.01 versus a CI4+? My guess is lower Zinc / Phosphorous like SM compared to SL, but I don't want to guess on this.

Which Amsoil for 2001 and 2006 VW TDI?

My search here was unproductive due to the number of "Volkswagen" and "Amsoil" hits you get. Amsoil recommends their AFL 5W40 European Car Formula for both applications, and I'm waiting to hear back from their tech line why they don't list HDD, DEO, or any other alternatives. Does anyone...

Oil Warranty Requirements for 2010 Subaru STi

Although the Wix 51356 has more filtering area, I'd hesitate to switch to it since it is not the OE size, and our Subaru's are known for spun bearings. Don't give them excuses. If you want to be serviced by the dealer for warranty maintenance, buy any decent GF4 synthetic and bring it in to...

    Oh Boy!

I have both the blue-handled style channel lock pliers for when there's lots of room around the filter. These are commonly available at most automotive hardware stores. The Amsoil small filter (Lisle style shown above) filter remover for when access is tight around a filter. (e.g.: Subarus with...

Can oil really make this much MPG difference?

It seems to be more advantageous in a car designed for 5W20, but yes. 10% is not unheard of. Remember that Castrol 0W30 is at the high end of the 30 scale (12.1 cSt), Edge 5W30 is kind of low (9.8 cSt.)

Shell Rotella T synthetic 5w-40 in Subaru Outback

I have two Subarus, and the upgrade to 5W40 synthetic sounds like a good plan to deal with the extra load. Rotella T 5W40, Mobil 1 0W40, Amsoil DEO 5W40, RP 5W40 are all good choices. Get what you can with the lowest cost of ownership.

    Red Line as an Additive?

Motul Gear 300, Amsoil Severe Gear, and some other dedicated ultimate protection gear oils are not friction modified for working with synchros. It becomes most obvious in Subaru six speeds in cold weather, trying to grab 1st when you start out in the morning. If your STi is rolling down the...

    Red Line as an Additive?

The Redlines are also good for extended drain intervals, if that helps with your cost justification. And we just Redline MT-90 as an "additive" to blend with high quality 75W90 synthetic gear oils (Motul Gear 300, Amsoil Severe Gear) in manual transmissions. About 25% MT90 slows the synchros...

    Mobil 1 UOA

There's some Honda guys here running Amsoil diesel oils, in order to get the Class IV PAO high ZDDP packages in the typical fuel economy grades. If you're pounding on it at the track in the high RPM's, the HDD 5W30 is near the upper level of a 30. SL Gasoline grade. Something to add to the pot.
