Predatory pricing at the local garage

As someone already said, the warranty is 8 years from date of first use (sale), or 80,000 miles. It is very unlikely that the rear o2 sensor is faulty because he made no mention of a code for that, and the way the catalyst monitor functions, the rear o2 must be sweeping in order to run the...

    Nissan Recall

Are you serious? Nissan has found a problem with this car and wants to fix it for you. Its not "a chance for them to fool around under the hood". There's probably an updated part that gets replaced. Its not uncommon for recalls to pop up years later.

Car problem. I'm hoping some here might help....

He's right, it's probably the IAC. We put these on all the time on the 1MZ engines. It seems to be most common on the Siennas for some reason. It won't set a code, as it is most commonly not an electrical issue, but just the valve sticking. Once it gets to the point of a no-start, it pretty much...

    Toyota pink type 2 antifreeze

I would highly recommend that you DON'T put dexcool in a toyota engine, and so does Toyota.

    Toyota pink type 2 antifreeze

What 2000 model is it? Toyota officially started putting pink in all models beginning with the 2004 model year. Some earlier model year japanese built vehicles were shipped with pink. The earliest I've seen the pink is in 2002 japanese camrys and 2002 4runners. Your car probably calls for the...

Magnetic Drain Plug : Is it beneficial ?

ditto, Toyota uses them in the trans pan as well. Im sure most manufacturers do.

my regaine as a piston soak experiment (pics)

We do this same operation in the shop at times. Most commonly on 1ZZ corollas, where the rings stick in their lands and cause excess oil consumption. I use Toyota top engine cleaner, but with my own cars, I like to use GM top engine cleaner. I feel it works a bit better and it seems just a bit...

    VVT/timing chains failure prevention

It's sad that the "professionals" don't take time to fill the oil filter before screwing in. It's so easy in the 1ZZFE engine. [/QB] I sincerely doubt any real world wear is going to come from that little bit of chain rattle for a second due to a dry filter. Its when the oil is low and the...

    VVT/timing chains failure prevention

FYI... it is the 2ZZ engine that was designed by yamaha. I work for toyota and and have only seen 2 of these actuators in the 1ZZs fail. Far more common on these engines is excessive oil consumption due to poor maintenence intervals. The rings, especially the oil control ring sticks in their...

    Toyota Avalon

Alamogunr, the cartridge is not that bad and i assure you it is cleaner than what you are accustomed to with the 1MZ. By the way, newer 1MZ's in camrys and highlanders have put a baffle under the filter to catch oil and drain it away from the block. However, the blocks are different and im...

some questions about a 1999 avalon....

T-belt due at 90K, the water pumps dont often go bad, and can go till the second belt change if all is ok when inspected with the belt off. Coolant is due every 30K or 36 months. Stick with toyota red, its good stuff. Some will tell you this engine is a sludge monster. DON'T listen to them! I...

    Toyota Avalon

Well, I can say these are very nice cars! I work on them all the time. Very nice (and powerful) driveline. The cartridge filters are not bad. There have been a couple TSBs regarding console covers that are easily fixed. On the earliest ones, there was a TSB for an oil leak from an oil pipe on...

Bought an '07 Camry and the oil filter is the cartridge type

Cheaper. No steel, no springs, no gaskets (on the cartridge itself). Its cleaner for the enviroment for the same reasons; less waste when thrown away. Im confused why some people believe the cart filter on the 2GR engines is an afterthought. The block is based on the 1GR engines found in the...

No, the four cylinders still have the spin on filters. Greg

Bought an '07 Camry and the oil filter is the cartridge type

Has anyone used the aftermarket filters in these new engines yet? I am curious as to whether or not they give you the 2 new o-rings and the plastic pipe. This is toyotas new core V6 car engine now, its in the camry, rav, and avalon. So I guess we'll have to get used to this setup. Greg

Bought an '07 Camry and the oil filter is the cartridge type

I am a toyota tech and dont really have gripes towards the new cartridges. The little plastic tube toyota gives you with the filter makes it fairly clean. For those who have not seen this new setup, there is a small cover on the bottom of the filter housing that unscrews with a 3/8" square...

Toyota 2azfe 2.4L 4 cyl just added piston oil sprayers

FYI... The newer 2AZ 2.4 engine's comression ratio was increased from 9.6 to 9.8. Could be part of the reason the sprayers were added. Here at work, we just throw in 5w20 (dino), because we charge a crapload for toyota's brand 0w20 (syn). Greg
