I have a 2011 also but with the 5.3 ltr V8. Starting in 2011 Gm requires you to run a Dexos approved oil. They are either synthetic blend or full synthetic any will work, I always use a AC Delco filter, you can get them at Walmart really cheap.

I have always been happy using any Quaker State oil.

Dude, don't you get 2 years of free oil changes with the purchase of a 2014? I'm using Castrol GTX Synthetic Blend in my 2011 Silverado. It's Dexos approved, my rig still calls for 5W30. The engine seems to run the quietest on this oil.

Don't know about the Contis but I just put the Michelin LTX MS 2 on my 2011 Silverado and I love them. Very smooth riding and quiet, took very little weights to balance.

I bought a 2011 Chevy Silverado in March. I changed the oil about 3500 miles ago using Pennzoil Platinum 5w30. I have 6 quarts of Chevron Supreme 5w30 that I would like to use. Would it really hurt to use a oil that is not Dexos certified for one oil change? Thanks

Yes the uoa was from Blackstone, I've looked at other uoa's from similar engines and haven't seen any with this level of Copper, also I did not get a TBN.

Thanks for the replies, my hour meter cannot be reset. So Im assuming it reset on its own or a technican reset it for some reason. I'll keep my eye on it to see what happens. Really like the truck alot, much nicer that the 2006 F150 that I traded for it.

I purchased a 2008 GMC Sierra in Feb. with 42300 miles on it.The engine hour meter showed 170 hours. I have put 8000 miles on the truck, current mileage is about 50300 and the engine hour meter shows over 400 hours. This just doesn't make sense, any thoughts?
