    Wavy Cartridge Filter Media

Thanks for the input, everyone. I'll keep with what I'm doing, and watch for any tears (as in perforations), hoping for no tears (as in crying, which is how I originally read Stewie's reply LOL).

    Wavy Cartridge Filter Media

Last oil change, I pulled a filter with bends near the bottom of the folds. It went in as a perfectly-straight media WIX cartridge. Is this the result of over-torquing the cap, or is it a reason to only buy OEM for my application? This is from the 3.6 Pentastar in my 2012 WK2 Jeep Grand...

    Small Tick in 4.0L Jeep

You seem like you'd know the difference, so this is not meant as an insult, but are you sure the tick is not coming from a slight crack in the exhaust manifold? I'm not sure if it was still a problem in the 2002, but I know the 93-98 models would often crack. I replaced mine with a Doug Thorley...

    Oil leak

My first guess would be a problem with blow-by. Maybe the oil shot out through the dipstick tube or another "path of least resistance." Have you checked the dipstick seal and PCV valve and hose? Done a compression check? Is there any "blue" smoke at startup?

    First hand high mileage experience

186,000 on my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L Purchased in 1998 with 32,000 mi and done at various quickie lubes (mostly Citgo 10w30 oil used) at 3000mi intervals, until 80,000mi. At that point, I started caring for it myself with 50/50 mixes of 10w30 syn/dino (QS, Pennzoil, and Valvoline at...

    Reputable brake mechanic Houston, TX

I lived in Houston for several years in the mid-late 90s and found Richmond Auto Repair to be very fair and honest. As a poor student at the time, they really got me through some tough predicaments with my old Subaru. Trustworthy diagnoses, solid work, fair prices and great customer service are...

benefits/effects of carwash/do it yourself wash?

You definitely need some agitation of the carwash shampoo, but I would highly recommend using your own genuine sheepskin wash mitt, and avoiding the foam brushes. The bristles themselves can do quite a job of causing "swirls" and other "micromarring," but the stuff that people use them on...

Need some G-05.. What brands can I use?

I found gallons of Xerex G-05 for $11.00 at PepBoys and then for $9.99 at NAPA. You might want to check that out.

    Diet Root Beer

I weened myself off The Real Thing several years ago, and switched to Diet. My baby steps were with Diet Rite Kiwi-Strawberry and then I was able to move to Pepsi-One. I now stick mainly with Splenda-sweetened sodas like Pepsi-One, Coke/Sprite "Zero," and Diet Rite selections. As far as diet...

    Dent Pullers

Those pullers usually only work well on more substantial dents than what it sounds like you are describing. Check the Yellow Pages or ask around for a good PDR guy. PDR is "Paintless Dent Removal," and they can do some amazing things. Here's a link to a site I found by doing a Yahoo search for...

    Wax Under Sun??

Just stop by your local Harley dealership and pick up some S-100 paste wax. It's the easiest wax you'll ever use, probably the nicest looking, and perfectly fine for application in full sun. It runs about $15/jar, and I'd also recommend the S-100 Paint Cleanser for an extra $10 or so.

Online place to buy WIX filters cheap?

It's nationwide, there's even a Triple-A logo stating "Show Your Card and Save" on the NAPA website. I was told that the discount varies by what you are buying, but 7-10% seems to be about right in my experience. I now use it every time. Beware, though, my NAPA always looks to see the card...

Ok to replace Green with G-05 for '96 Jeep 4.0?

The G-05 was $11/gallon at Pep-Boys. It seemed to be the regular price, not on sale or anything. When I went to use the second gallon, someone had popped the foil on it. It looked full and matched the sealed container in all perceptible ways, so I went ahead and used the quart I needed out of...
