    Grease/lube for a gyroscope?

Hey everyone. I recently built a gyroscope in the school machine shop, and will be competing in a timed event next week. I'm looking for a lubricant to go between the spindle and the bearing, but I'm not sure which lube will work best for my purposes. I thought to myself, "what better place to...

    Filter dissection: ST3593a and ST7317

Honda recommends pcm-a01(Filtech) or pcm-a02 (Fram) for all of their vehicles now, except for the s2000. The filter for the s2000 is the pcx-004 (Toyo Roki), and is japanese made.

    Filter dissection: ST3593a and ST7317

Haha, short? You should see the Fram equivalent! I also feel that the bypass on the 7317 is better built, even though its made of plastic.

    Filter dissection: ST3593a and ST7317

Mr. Magoo: You know, I was thinking the exact same thing. The bypass looks IDENTICAL, as far as I can tell, to the bypass on the PH7317 by Fram. Can anyone comment on this? Bill, you are an endless fountain of oil knowledge!!

    Honda 15400-PCX-004 filter media area?

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but is there a concensus on the filter media surface area in the pcx-004? Even 165 is quite a bit, considering that the similar-volume ST3593a has 97-5/8 square inches.

    Filter dissection: ST3593a and ST7317

SWHeat, isn't the bypass valve on the 7317 that little blue thing? It's hard to see from the pictures, but there is a little coil spring inside there. I forgot to add my calculations earlier: ST7317 had about 86-1/16 square inches. ST3593a had about 97-5/8 square inches.

    Filter dissection: ST3593a and ST7317

Hey guys, you may remember me from a few months back. I was pondering the difference between the ST3593a and the ST7317, and decided to finally crack some open to see for myself. Unfortunately, I didn't splurge the extra $2.07 to get a clean 7317; instead I opened up the one I just took out...

Well, I honestly haven't explored that option yet. However, from the above post, "As folks know there is no CONVENTIONAL oil 0w20 currently on the market."

Thanks for your insight, ruking. It seems like there are many arguments going for sticking with a 5w20, yet I still see some members using 5w30 on this engine and similar K series. Is there a reasoning behind their doing so? Are there ANY advantages? TIA

I just did a quick search on parrafin, and it seems that people have had an issue in the past with Pennzoil and parrafin wax supposedly being in there oil? The conclusion, however, seems to be that it is just a misconception, and has been debunked. Thanks, though, for bringing that up. I'm...

oops, you beat me to the post, Bill. Again, thanks for taking the time to help out a newbie to oil. I think I have tentatively concluded that I will run 5w30 dino on 4-5k intervals. The reason why I'm favoring the 30w over the 20w is because I'm afraid of the dilution effects from the short...

Haha, thanks tamu man. Those K20a's sure are beasts. I'm looking to put a K20a head on my k24 sometime in the far future.
