Has anyone gone high miles on 0W20 or 5W20 oils?
300k miles or more?
You hear about engines (older Lexus in my case, 328k) on 0W20 (Signature) and also 5W30 Amsoil (HDD and Signature). I always did oil analysis and the HDD actually did best. But to be fair, the 5W30 didn't get its 25k+ mile...
So in the world of oil, assuming proper grade and specification, what is the WORST oil that you have seen?
Everyone is looking for the best oil, but lets look at the other end of the spectrum. Like std Fram oil filters are arguably the worst oil filter design, there has to be an oil out there...
I've often wondered are the variable valve timing, VVTi, VTEC, etc THAT sensitive to oil viscosity?
Some say that xW20 oils are only spec'd in the US/North America and not overseas, IF that is true (I can't figure out how to find out), do the OEM's change the variable valve timing orifices?
Just got a 02 Camry 4 popper from a guy at work that will be my daughters college car in Texas, so being it is going to live in a hot climate, I went with M1 HM 10W30 instead of 5W30.
My Lexus GS400 with the 1UZ-FE v8 has significantly tighter tolerances in the cam, rod and main bearings than the 1UR-FSE (the LS460 engine), and the 1UZ was spec'd for 5W30 and the 1UR was spec'd for 0W20.
I've run 0W20, 5W20 and 5W30 in my 1UZ-FE V8 with no problems in any conditions.
It...
Right sorry didn't word it well. Zero crude in a quart of motor oil.
Rephrased. How my crude oil is needed to be distilled or processed to end up with 1 quart of petroleum motor oil (including additives). Probably no way to get an answer.
I have dug around and can't seem to find out how much. Once forum member (not sure what forum) said 21 gallons of crude to make 1 QUART of librication oil, but that sounds excessive to me.
Anyone know? Or know where I can find out? Just a ballpark number.
My sister in law is a fleet manager and they are seeing 5-6 engine failures a year, only in Ford 4.6 and 5.4L engines (Expeditions mainly). GM and Toyota vehicles are not seeing failures.
We believe they are running the 5W20 petroleum oil and where these are at, they idle 24/7 and see ambient...
I'm at 0W20 now, not sure if I could even conceive of thinner.... (-5W20? lol....)
Ill probably dig up the stuff for an oil cooler, just makes me feel better.
Dream oil system would be what I have now, plus cooler plus bypass filter to keep it as clean as possible. I would be content with a...
I have the good for my car commute. Start car, putz through the subdivision for about 1/2-3/4 at 20-25 mph, then get on main road up to 45-50 for about 2 min, always get stuck at light, then go a mile and get on interstate at 70-75 mph for about 7 miles, then get off and take back roads to work...
If the oil is capable of lasting longer with an oil cooler, why not? I put 30k or more miles a year on the car, the conditions are fairly consistent and if there is something I can do practically to do to extend it further, and add the bypass filter and cooler oil (looking at a engine coolant...
