Hitachi is the OEM vendor for this vehicle's MAF sensor. My '04 ranger suffered a MAF failure from an 'orange' air filter that shed its material into the sensor, causing lean code both banks. I couldn't remove the debris from the heated wire due to the sensor's construction.
This MAF0012 is the...
I just changed these on my '13 F150 5.0. The cooler line set is based on the engine type for part number. On my truck, the crimp for passenger tube-to-quick connect failed. It had split and sprayed ATF all over the frame. I cheated by removing the front metal bracket from the line set and slid...
The 6R80/60's have a thermostatic valve above the valve body that doesn't open until 190+. Trying to do a fluid exchange/flush through the cooler lines does not work unless you get the trans screaming hot and use preheated fluid.
The 3.0 Vulcans will drop valve seats if badly overheated. I know the '02-05 had big problems with the valve seats. I guess I got a good one, 342K on it and drive it like I stole it every day.
BTW, in the Rangers, you do have to pull the engine for oil pan gasket in the 4x4 models. 4x2 is a...
350Rocket, the cam synchro usually starts out as a chirping like a bad belt, only at the rear (driver's end) instead of the belts. When my synchro failed, it was a grinding sound coming through the firewall on start-up. I shut it down and had it towed. I changed the syncho with OEM. No...
I did the repair myself. $70 for the pump, $20 for the timing cover set, $40 for the timing set, changed the oil because the timing cover also covers the front inch of the oil pan. I had plenty of G-05 on hand for draining the rest of the cooling system. The Ranger holds almost 3 gallons! It...
Timing cover gasket behind the water pump is the 'big' leaker on the Vulcan 3.0. I have the same engine in an '04 Ranger (except rwd). It went from a few drips over 20K to a huge 3-foot lake under the truck overnight. The water pump was OEM at 200K, it got replaced along the timing set. The...
I replaced the rear brake line set on daughter's '94 Camry. I don't have any practice in forming/flaring brake lines, so I ordered both lines from the local dealer. The lines were pre-formed and they were 'gently' bent in half length for the left rear and bent twice for the passenger side.
The...
Here is another wrinkle in the orange-to-yellow mess. Ford released a statement (see link) saying the yellow (VC13) is drop-in compatible with the orange and is safe to top-off existing Ford orange.
Yellow Coolant
Wow.... 1 qt usage in 750 miles on an engine with 50K an still considered normal?!
I am at 1 qt usage in 5K on a Ford 3.0 Vulvan with 300K and that's with Napa full synthetic 5w20 or Motorcraft blend 5w20.
BTW, I am not gentle on this engine with 3k shift point on the M5OD.
Wife's '04 SOHC 4.0...
I'd use the Autolite APP5144 double platinums or the XP5144 iridium plugs. The waste spark setup on Fords will eat the center electrode on one bank of the engine. I don't think the Motorcraft fine-wire plugs are double platinum. I've had very good results with the Autolites in the coil-pack Ford...
FWIW, the '01-'12 Rangers had no left/right adjustments as stated in owners and service manuals. I recently replaced the cloudy headlights (Ford OEM's) and they have -no- provisions for horizontal adjustments. The new housings did line up to the original left/right pattern, only a slight...
My '04 Ranger has seen only MC synthetic blend 5w20, FL400S filters, 5K intervals.
Wife's '04 Explorer has been on MC synthetic blend 5w30, FL820S, 4K intervals.
Both 1MZFE's in Toyota and Lexus also been upgraded to MC synthetic blend 5w30. Filters are usually the FL910S, 4-5K intervals.
I have the '04 3.0 in a Ranger. Tough motor, 290K hard-driven miles on mine. Watch the cam synchro, belt-like chirping or grinding on start-up are a dead giveaway it's dying. OEM replacements only, don't use aftermarket on this critical part. They last around 100-150K. If it binds, it will chip...
