I've not heard about "older" versus "newer" ZDDP... The molecule should be the same... Older vehicle engine oils... like from the 1950s and 1960s had much more ZDDP in them than newer oils...
I found this reply posted by RCX to the same GM TechLink article over on TurboBuicks.com. This thread was started when Pacos87GN posted Bob Olree’s Article from the Dec. 2007 GM Techlink publication for GM dealers and technicians titled: “Engine Oil Myths”.:
"We at AMI may not be lubrication...
If this is true, then I guess we know why GM dropped EOS... but the latest word is that GM has a new part number for EOS and it will be available in the second quarter of 2008. From 1977c10phxdriver's post, there is no need for additional Zn and P, in the form of ZDDP, in modern engine oils...
What is the substitute for ZDDP when it comes to flat tappet cams?? I haven't seen much credible evidence that there is a satisfactory one. Even Mobil 1 on their site says it is the additive of choice for this now specialized application.
Bruce--by the way I didn't ask for an account # but a UPS/FedExable address. Sometimes folks use a PO box and as you know that doesn't always work. Also I printed on each sample the "code" numbers that appear on each bottle. I do not know how to decode them --perhaps you do. Another thing that...

While this statement seems reasonable I see one major flaw with the logic. It seems very clear from tests that have been conducted on thousands of cars over millions of miles that there has never been an additive that could out perform ZDDP for the protection of flat tappet cams. Now that...
Bruce I have had someone take samples for you from the exact bottles that I submitted to Harris for testing. If you send me a UPS/FedEx address I will get them out to you immediately. I will even offer to pay for the test if it turns out that my statements are wrong. I will also include pages...
theory? At least I have taken the time and money to test the stuff unlike many that just have faith or believe advertising. I personally believe (contrary to many) that Mobil One is one of the best automotive lubricants that money can buy if not THE BEST. I use it in my CTS-V because it is...
guys The Mobil One sample tested was 10w-30 synthetic and the Valvoline 10w-30 was conventional/standard/dino whatever you want to call it. Both were marked with API donut as SM. We were quite surprised since these very oils did have higher values first quarter of this year. I think some of us...
OK. I scanned and uploaded the test report for Mobil 1 and Valvolene oils. On October 5, 2007 we submitted samples to Harris Testing Laboratories in Houston, TX... and they performed the API specified tests for both Zn and P. The Octiber 11, 2007 results came back with less than 0.001 % by...
I just looked up the report (Certificate of Analysis)... Harris Testing Labs.. Lab Number; HH0710-0501, Sample M-4 (Mobile) = <0.001 % Phosphorus by weight. Sample V-4 (Valvolene) = <0.001 % by weight Phosphorus. Signed by the lab manager on October 11, 2007.
We use Harris Testing Laboratories at 2502 Garrow Street, Houston, TX 77003, telephone 713-237-9039 for our tests. They perform D-4951 on the Phosphorus and AA on the Zinc as described by the API. If you don't believe, send in a sample.. As mentioned, both of those oils tested <0.001% by weight...
