    That's exactly what he recommends to seat the rings and protect the cams for first 500 miles. It doesn't need to last 25000 miles. And, he charges cost only which is a lot cheaper than $15.     My machine shop likes joe Gibbs break in oil. He said regular gas oils don't have enough ZDDP for break in and Rotella has to many cleaners for the rings to seat well.

    Thanks for all of the input guys! I love cars and I do all the maintenance on mine by the book or better. This has by far been the best car I have ever owned. I switched from synthetic to Dino once the oil consumption started. Maybe I should go back? I know that oil use is normal as a car ages...

    The engine has no external leaks. It's been highway driven since I've had it the past 4.5 years. I bought it with 150k and used Mobil 1 SM with no consumption. Since that was discontinued the oil consumption has started and kept increasing.

    I have 340k and am using Chevron Supreme 5W30 with 5k OCI. Last oil change used 1.75 quarts of oil. I'm not a fan of high mileage oils with seal conditioners. Is there another oil that would reduce oil consumption? Thanks!
