So, if I go with the VR1 (conventional) for my stock 340-S...should I use 10W30 or 20W50?
Again, car is only driven from April - Nov.
Summer gets pretty hot here in L.I., NY!
I own a 1968 Barracuda Formula 340-S, auto. (orig. flat tappet cam).
127k on original motor.
Been using Valvoline VR-1 (10w30) for past 2 seasons...
April-Nov, depending on weather on L.I., NY.
Heard about Brad Penn, checked their site and was thinking of
switching this spring.
Should I?
What...
Thanks to all.
Again, relying on all of you "oil" experts.
Just want to put right oil in to preserve orig. motor for as long as possible.
It's a #'s matching car...want it to stay that way.
Without price as a factor, which one wins the vote?
Car is torqueflite 727 auto.
Funny you mention 20w50, because that is what my mechanic
(ex Mopar dealer employee) recommends.
What is correct?...10w30, 10w50, 20w50...
Car sits in unheated (detached) garage all winter
and is out spring to late fall.
Thanks.

So it looks like Valvoline Maxlife 10w30 seems to be the choice.
No need to worry about the ZDD issue?
Thanks to all.
And thanks to 440Magnum for the welcome!
Will post pics of car ASAP.
Hey-
I have a '68 Barracuda Formula-S 340.
All original matching #'s. 123,000 on motor.
Want to change oil, but don't know what grade/weight to use.
I'm in Long Island,NY and car is stored for winter.
When I bought the car in May'07, the previous owner had just
changed oil...said he used...
