Since draining the FF, for the next 3 OCIs I have been consistent re the oil used (QH 5W30) and filter (PF48). Each run has been for more miles than the previous. I was intending to go much longer on this most recent interval but the good weather last Saturday convinced me to do my oil change now before winter comes

. I think I will be able to go with this current fill of Petro Canada 0W30 till more good weather in April/May.

In that last run, severe fuel dilution thinned the oil to the point that it increased wear. I'd bet on it. I don't think SM/GF-4 oils are the best for these DI engines.

I am just a novice at all of this, but by looking at the numbers, how can you conclude that "fuel dilution increased wear"? The numbers all looked lower than the previous ones and fuel was listed as "trace".

I am interested, cause I have the same engine and will do a UOA in the next month or two. His numbers are looking good to me.

For sure the flashpoint and 100C viscosity took a beating in this longest run yet. (But yet this phenomenon does not appear in all these UOAs

).

But I do see some good things. For example I dont think I see any rise in any of the wear numbers and several show a decrease, like copper and silicon.

But yes, with the thinning seen here and given that the current 0W30 oil will be in for the entire idling winter I would/should have instead tried the more robust GC or maybe even M1 0W40. In any event I will try something like this come spring...just to see if there is a noticeable difference.

I read your other thread about VOA sent to two labs, and I was just wondering if this UOA was done by Wearcheck or what?

All these 4 consecutive UOAs you see are from a prepaid batch I purchased from Blackstone.

I am thinking that being close to consistent in all key features of these OCIs ie oil, filter and tester will yield at the least good trending data. What do you think?

OK. Well I think if their UOA precision is good (repeatedly hitting the same target or numbers) even if their accuracy (the target is where it actually should be) was off it would till be good for trending if that makes sense. (I may have the definitions of accuracy and precision reversed but I think you get my point)

Basically their accuracy wouldn't have to be right and trending would still be valid, but if their precision is off the trending wouldn't be valid. Even worse is if both were off lol. Basically their precision would have to be right but not necessarily their acccuracy for trending to be meaningful.

For Canadian users of Blackstone:

For this latest UOA that you see above:

I did the oil change Saturday November 14 and mailed off the sample late that afternoon. I got the Blackstone report in my inbox early Thursday November 19.

I thought this was an very good turnaround time for an automotive sample going across the border.
