My local Autobarn now has this oil in stock. It's the first time I've seen an Xw30 in the 8100 range in this country (the other 8100s being 0w40 and 5w40).

Has anyone seen it, or tried it ? I don't know the full specs, but considering it's a european oil marked as "100% synthetic", I assume it's PAO. It's API SL / CF and A5 / B5. The specs look similar to M1 SS 10w30 :

What's your car? This oil not ACEA A3/B3/B4 rated.
I know Motul 8100 xcess 5w-40 PAO/Group 3 blend not sure about this. You can send an Email to link intrnational au and ask about this oil.[motul dis in oz]
If this is a 100% PAO or PAO/Ester blend then no worries.
Any group 3 I wouldn't use it in our hot summer days.
You can try their 300v 5w-30 or 8100 E-tech 0w-40.

why not ??

In diesel oils, Caltex Delo 400, Castrol RX Super and Mobil Delvac MX are widely used in interstate trucking all summer long, yet are group II bases. They are OK for up to 30 000km drain intervals.

Rick.

I wouldn't use a 5w-30 dino in summer either, but we do come from a country where 25w-50 is the 'normal' grade, and 25w-60/25w-70 is a reasonable seller.

I use Motul and have seen this one (SoCal US). It's a "Lite" version of the 8100 E-Tech 0W-40, better economy (MPG). It also doesn't carry the same approvals (as you can see). Both are Ester based (blends), whereas the X-cess is petrol synth (PAO). I use the E-Tech 0W-40 in my VW/Audi 1.8t's and that would be my recommendation. Factory is 0W-30, but 0W-30/40 and 5W-30/40 can work too. I found 5W-40 or 0W-40 to be best suited (usually with the latest formula/approvals as well). 0W/5W-30's are big in Europe for economy. Anyways, I think the E-Tech 0W-40 would be better overall for the hot outback. And no worries going from a xW-30 to xW-40 viscosity (it'll help in the higher ambient temps).

I just finished an 11K mile run with their 300V 5W-40 (old formula) with good results (see UOA page). The E-Tech 0W-40 will be better for the extended drain though (newer formula and VW 503.01,..etc).

Really? From my experience, stuff like GC (SLX) 0w-30 is a niche product here. Most people use thicker oils like M1 5w-50 or Castrol TWS 10w-60. The most popular Castrol oils are the Magnatec line: 10w-40 (synt. blend) and 5w-40 (synth, although Group 3, IIRC).

BTW, nice results on your last UOA. You definitely got your money's worth.

It would be nice if these people would actually respond to the e-mails I send to them

I already have 8100 E Tech 0w40 in my collection that I will use in my Mazda.

Not sure about the 8100 range being "blends" (Group 3), they better not be for the price they charge for them. The 8100 range is always labelled as "100% synthetic" and I thought the "technosynthesis" (4100 range) label in Motul-speak meant Group 3 ?

Losiho,
one of their 'Technosynthese' oils (Tekma Mega X 15w-40) is a PAO blend.
Even says so on the spec sheet sitting in front of me that Link faxed through.

"1. Includes a synthetic base stock (polyolefin) to improve performance"

Don't email Link, phone them and talk to someone, you should get better results, at least thats what I did.
I think it was Stuart I spoke to back in January, as that is the name in my notes on one of the PDS's. After reviewing the data, I stayed with Delvac 1

Rick.

Motul looks like interesting oil but I'm not sure if it's worth it with the other oils out their. I guess if I had easy access to it, I'd go for it.

6100 is their group 3 line but as far as i know you don't get this stuff in australia (10W40 & 15W50 ). Maybe it is not cost efficient .

The 6100 was absorbed into the 8100 line, hence you get pao and full ester oils within the 8100 range. I think only the 0w-40 is ester.

Hi.
8100 X-cess 5w-40 PAO+Group 3 blend.
8100 0w-40 PAO+Ester blend no group 3.
300v Ester may be a little bit of PAO but am not 100% sure about that.

8100 X-cess 5w40 = $55 for a 5L bottle
8100 E-tech Ester 0w40 = $92
8100 Eco-Nergy 5w30 = $90

If price is any indication, there *should* be more than Group 3 in the mix for ninety bucks.

send an Email to this address and find out. [email protected]
Seems to be 100% PAO base oil according to the high price.
If this is 100% PAO then think about
Castrol formula RS 0w-40.[100% PAO and A$65 for 5Ltrs at Auto one store.]

Yes, the 6100 5W40 has absorbed into the 8100 line but the 6100 line didn't carry this grade only.
6100 10W40 and
6100 15W50
keep selling and evolving in europe embracing new approvals.
