I have a couple of vehicles that I'm thinking of cleaning with Auto-Rx but wanted to get some feedback on whether or not it's really necessary before I do. I'm thinking from the standpoint of optimum performance and longevity.
The first is a '97 Chevy S-10 with a 2.2L, 4cyl. engine. It has 70K on it. Just bought it, and, although the previous owners religiously maintained it--oil changes every 3K miles, service records show that different oil brands were used. It doesn't leak and doesn't use any oil. I'd like to switch it to a true synthetic with a maintenance dose since it's going to be mainly highway driven.
The second vehicle is a '97 Cavalier with a 2.4L, 4cyl. engine and 63K miles. It too has been religiously maintained. Switched over to M1 SS about 3K miles ago. I'm guessing this engine would be pretty clean. It's had Quaker State Full Synthetic since 500 miles and always used a Napa gold filter until I switched to the UPF-59's at the time of the switch to the M1 oil. It also isn't leaking or using oil. Runs well. I'm thinking of running a maintenance dose in this one as well.
Thoughts anyone?
