Looking for the Brightest pure white halogen bulb for my 2010 Mountaineer. The originals are ok but would like to get something brighter. Single bulb high and low. Low beam with the driving lights are good but the high beams not so much. Thanks for the help.

Philips Diamond Vision 5000K
+1

I have those in our '03 Buick, they're definitely brighter than stock, and none have burned out yet. I got a great deal on them on Amazon a couple of years ago.

Light output for a given bulb size is limited by the DOT. The best way to get more light on the road is to use one of the bulbs with a more efficient filament design, as they will typically be on the upper end of that range.

Sylvania XtraVision comes to mind and is available at most parts stores -- and won't break the bank. It won't have any of the stupid fake HID/blue look to it:

I would not recommend those Diamond Visions that 123Saab mentioned, as they're marketed as being a "style upgrade".

I asked the same question awhile back.. my headlights were a dull yellow and i could not see at night. I had about 70 percent against me for LED lights but i went with it anyway.... best investment i have made for night driving...totally worth it. Gave me at least a 100 percent gain in vision. I tried silverstars and a few other higher output bulbs before giving in.

There are alot of posts on the Corvette forums alot of those guys with older vettes love the LEDs.

Youtube is full of videos showing the difference.

And yes the LED bulbs are pure white.

It's a 5000K bulb, and the OP wanted White. There it is.

IMO the 9011 HIR1 bulbs are/were the best. Toshiba used to make them. They were 4300K at 65 watts for high beam only. It is a 9011 bulb that can be easily modified to fit 9005 applications. The light output was FAR superior to standard halogen bulbs and they lasted a long time. Lexus supposedly still sells them under part #90981-13066, I found them on Amazon but they are HIGH, https://www.amazon.com/Toyota-90981-13066-Genuine-Bulb/dp/B00E4SEHD0. Phillips markets 9011s that they claim are HIR1 bulbs, but I haven't tried them so I can't comment on their light output.

I would suggest the Philips X-tremeVision.

Other things to look at is polishing the headlight lenses, or replacing the assemblies if the reflectors inside have faded from age and heat. Make sure your charging system is working properly, and ensure the wiring at the bulbs is tight and free of corrosion.

Even new stock bulbs will be an improvement if the current ones are a few years old. I've tested beam hotspot brightness on a few different bulbs. A well used bulb was 25% dimmer than a new stock unit. An X-tremeVision bulb was 7% brighter than new, and a RacingVision bulb was 17% brighter.

I would not recommend any Sylvania product. They are not well designed bulbs. they tend to put out scattered light that is terrible for oncoming traffic. And I've seen more negative reviews about Sylvania bulbs than any other. Hands down.

I would also recommend Philips bulbs. A lot of 5000 K bulbs start looking a little on the blue side. Perhaps you like that look. Another option may be Philips Crystalvision Ultra. They are a 4000 K bulb.

Here is a great source for bulbs that aren't readily available elsewhere. They pride themselves in offering some of the best bulbs available. However, they may not be what you want, as they aren't necessarily the whitest. But they are intended to be the best bulbs available without blinding oncoming traffic.

Yes! That's the best conventional bulb ever made. Absolutely wonderful color temperature, brightness and the most pleasant conventional bulb in real world use. I still have one or two floating around, but nothing that takes them.

However, the very best LED's today are even better. The trouble is finding the particular brand and reflector combo that provides the excellent light.

NOTE: the following page is from a motorcycle accessory company that tests and sells only what works. It's a good place to start LED research. https://www.cyclopsadventuresports.com/led-headlight-bulbs.html

I found the genuine Toshiba 9011 HIR bulbs on Amazon for a little more reasonable price (but still high), https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-HIR1-Original-Equipment-Headlight/dp/B000C9QPKS. They can be easily modified to fit in 9005 high beam applications by trimming 1/8" off of the center hold-down tab with a Dremel, https://store.candlepower.com/mohirbuba.html, https://sep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-91565365470012_2267_311973.
The genuine Toshiba HIR bulb has a distinctive round/globe bulb shape. They output at least 50% more light for the same 65 watts, the 4300k output is whiter than conventional Halogen bulbs (without having a blueish cast), and they are DOT complaint. The difference they make is VERY noticeable. Their high price is offset somewhat by their outstanding service life.
I'm going to try the newer Philips HIR1 bulbs when my Toshibas eventually wear out. They have lasted 11 years so far, and on my vehicle they serve double-duty as DRLs so they are ON all of the time, very impressive!

Thanks for all the input and links guys. Appreciated. Do want to stick with halogen bulbs. Heck they could be orignal. On high been i have the distance but not the intensity.
